Harvey Milk Day May 22!

"Falling on a Friday this year, the local Milk Day event with a theme of “Trans Health Matters!” will begin at 6 p.m. at 575 Castro Street. It is where Milk operated his Castro Camera shop in the 1970s, using it also as his campaign headquarters for the four races he entered that decade, three for supervisor and one for a state legislative seat. It is now occupied by the gallery and events space Q***r Arts Featured.

Milk also had lived there in an upstairs apartment. The building at 573-575 Castro Street today is a city landmark due to its ties to the political pioneer.

From the historic site attendees will march up Castro Street to Jane Warner Plaza at the intersection with Market and 17th streets. There will be speakers and musical performances, with the event expected to wrap up at 7:30 p.m.
