What a memorable evening at Hazie’s last night celebrating Hanukkah with community, conversation, and connection 🕎✨

The Raoul Wallenberg Jewish Democratic Club hosted a joyful Latke & Vodka Hanukkah Party, bringing together friends, leaders, and neighbors committed to Jewish civic engagement and democratic values.

We were honored to hear from San Francisco City Attorney David Chiu and happy to see Rafael Mandelman, President of the Board of Supervisors, and Manny Yekutiel, District 8 Supervisor candidate—each sharing thoughtful insights and a deep commitment to the San Francisco Jewish community.

We are both distraught and outraged by the killing of Palestinian activist Awdah Hathaleen and other violent acts by settlers in the West Bank. The man accused of killing him had previously been sanctioned by the Biden Administration for past attacks and harassment of Palestinians only to have the sanctions reversed by President Trump earlier this year. Moreover, we note with deep concern that while on a recent advocacy mission to the SF Bay Area, Awdah was denied entry into the U.S. by the current Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agency and will now never again be able to lend his voice in support of justice for his community.

We at the Raoul Wallenberg Jewish Democratic Club wish to be clear:

Israel must conduct a thorough investigation, hold the perpetrator(s) fully accountable, and urgently reform its West Bank policies on settler violence, demolitions, and discriminatory building regulations. Extremist violence endangers lives, corrodes democratic values, and undermines Israel’s long-term security and moral standing.

Our support for Israel's existence as a homeland for the Jewish people and the safety of its citizens is resolute and unconditional. At the same time, our support for the policies of Israel's government is dependent on the policies in question — just as it is for the policies and actions of the U.S. government. May all of us who yearn for a future of peace continue to work diligently toward that vision together.

June 25 Meeting of the SF DCCC 06/27/2025

Big thank you to the San Francisco Democratic Party (SF DCCC) for unanimously approving a strong statement to condemn the antisemitic assault on Manny's, other recent violent incidents, and escalating antisemitic rhetoric across the political spectrum. The vote of 30 "ayes" and 0 "no" votes or abstentions sends the message that our local Dem Party leaders and the communities they represent stand with the Jewish community of San Francisco and beyond 🙏. Particular gratitude to Lily Ho and Eric Kingsbury for sponsoring the resolution (text is below) as well as Chair Nancy Tung and all of the many Co-Sponsors!

Statement by NSC Spokesperson Sean Savett on Edan Alexander | The White House 12/02/2024

The hostage video released today of American-Israeli citizen Edan Alexander is a cruel reminder of Hamas’s terror against citizens of multiple countries, including our own. We have been in touch with Edan’s family. The war in Gaza would stop tomorrow and the suffering of Gazans would end immediately — and would have ended months ago — if Hamas agreed to release the hostages. It has refused to do so, but as the President said last week, we have a critical opportunity to conclude the deal to release the hostages, stop the war, and surge humanitarian assistance into Gaza. This deal is on the table now. President Biden and the United States will continue to work around the clock to secure the release of our citizens including through diplomatic efforts and by increasing pressure on Hamas terrorists through sanctions, law enforcement actions, and other measures. On behalf of the Alexanders and all the families of the hostages still being held by Hamas, we will never cease in our efforts to secure their immediate release.

Statement by NSC Spokesperson Sean Savett on the Murder of Rabbi Zvi Kogan in the UAE | The White House 11/25/2024

"We condemn in the strongest terms the murder of Rabbi Zvi Kogan in the UAE and our prayers are with his family, the Chabad-Lubavitch community, the broader Jewish community, and all who are mourning his loss. This was a horrific crime against all those who stand for peace, tolerance, and coexistence. It was an assault as well on UAE and its rejection of violent extremism across the board. The United States is working in close coordination with Israeli and UAE authorities, and we have offered all appropriate forms of support. We commend the rapid efforts of UAE authorities who now have suspects in custody. Those who carried out this crime, and anyone supporting them, must be held fully accountable." - Statement by NSC Spokesperson Sean Savett on the Murder of Rabbi Zvi Kogan in the UAE
