Virginia is now the FIRST state in the South to put paid family and medical leave into law.

No one should have to choose between bring home a newborn, caring for a sick loved one, or recovering from illness, and their paycheck. Under this new law, VA workers will now have up to 12 weeks of paid leave when it matters most.

It took years of a Democratic majority in the State Legislature and then a Dem Governor to sign this bill into law—but our States Win support of VA candidates has made this a reality for 3 million of your American neighbors!

Yesterday morning, Tr*mp's FBI raided the office of Virginia State Senate President Pro Tempore L. Louise Lucas, according to Fox News, who was conveniently on the scene.

She is credited with leading the effort to combat Repub efforts to rig the midterms, pushing to redistrict VA 10 - 1 for Dems...this is the kind of badass courage our State Legislators bring to the fight against fascism because and

The corrupt, billionaire-bought Repub majority on the Roberts Court just legalized modern-day Jim Crow.

While this is a setback, it reminds us of just how much and that as always— !

Here's what we know at States Win: Free AND fair elections are the key to protecting ourselves, our communities, our democracy, and our freedoms.

So now more than ever, we must build on the momentum of our state legislative wins down ballot. Because it is either BLUE states where Democratic majorities and trifectas who will guarantee access to the ballot box for ALL eligible Americans, or RED states looking for ways to cheat their voters out of their voice.

We flipped VA, cracked GOP supermajorities in Mississippi and Iowa, and since 2017 have nearly tripled the number of Dem trifectas. We must keep laser focused on flipping more states because that's how we defeat this setback.

Together we can:

- Build aggressive map strategies in blue and battleground states to protect Black communities and fair representation.

- Support progressive candidates in state legislative races.

- Use any 2026 chamber victories to pass voting rights protections, investigate rigged maps, and enforce ethics and anti-corruption rules.

Plus, look for ways to fund our State Bridges nonprofit partners who are on the ground volunteering to protect voters, guard ballot access and fight intimidation, year-round.
