Our Executive Director Tina Burgelman received a very surprising notification in her inbox—two middle school students from asking to learn more about Raphael House!

These two seventh graders will be advocating for Raphael House to their class, and spent an afternoon with Tina learning about our services and touring our Residential Shelter.

Thank you so much to all the young changemakers for your curiosity, excitement, and verve. We’re so excited to watch the next generation of leaders show a passion for human services.

We hope you’ll join us for our annual Raphael House Black & White Gala on May 9, 2026 at the Palace Hotel!

This year, we are celebrating fifty years of home at our location at 1065 Sutter Street, and are gearing up for a night of excitement to commemorate our longstanding work supporting families experiencing homelessness.

Our gala is the must-attend event of the year. For one night, we gather to support families experiencing homelessness in San Francisco. Together, we’ll listen to families sharing their experiences at Raphael House, honor community partners, bid on live auction items, and dance the night away!

Today, Raphael House is proud to announce that it has received a transformative $4.2 million grant from the San Francisco Department of Homelessness and Supportive Housing to improve its facilities and expand its capacity to provide private rooms for more families experiencing homelessness. The grant is the first time the organization has received multi-year funding from the City of San Francisco in its 54-year history. In a time where our neighbors deserve advocacy and dignity, I’m glad to share the work we’re doing for San Francisco families experiencing homelessness.

Over the next two years, this grant will not only help Raphael House continue serving families but also expand its reach and capacity to help more families. The funding will help Raphael House complete capital repairs, expand its family and children’s services offerings, and open eight more rooms to maximize the capacity of its residential shelter. The grant was championed by Mayor Daniel Lurie , and the funding was allocated to Raphael House in the San Francisco FY 2025-26 FY 2026-27 budget. Capital work is already underway to support the opening of eight more rooms, increasing Raphael House’s capacity to serve 50% more families beginning in summer 2026.

Public funding helps accelerate growth. Your support helped build this progress, and continued philanthropic giving remains essential as Raphael House grows responsibly.
