Buena Vista Neighborhood Association ("BVNA") is a San Francisco neighborhood organization.

Founded in 1964, BVNA has evolved into an important advocate, steward and benefactor of Buena Vista Park, a 37-acre forested canopy that claims its place as the city’s oldest. In an effort to maintain, enhance and improve the park, and for the benefit of all city residents and its visitors, BVNA organizes volunteer work days, applies for grants and works to identify and leverage the involvement of

⭐️ BVNA Spotlight: Welcome Captain Sean Frost ⭐️

For this BVNA Spotlight, we’re excited to welcome Captain Sean Frost as the new Captain of SFPD Park Station.

Captain Frost is a San Francisco native who has served with the Police Department since 2005, including previous time at Park Station walking a footbeat on Haight Street. Throughout his career, he has worked across district stations, investigative assignments, administrative roles, and citywide enforcement units.

What stood out most to us was his belief that strong neighborhoods and public safety go hand in hand:

“A neighborhood and community cannot thrive without a feeling of safety, and a police department cannot provide that safety without a close relationship with its community and the neighborhoods it serves.”

Captain Frost also shared how excited he is to continue building on the strong community relationships fostered by Captain Angela Wilhelm and the Park Station team.

We also want to extend a heartfelt thank you to Captain Wilhelm for her partnership, support, and care for the Buena Vista community over the years. We’re incredibly grateful for all she’s done and wish her the very best in her new role. 💛

📍 Park Station is open 24/7

You can also stop by the station, say hello when officers are out in the neighborhood, or follow Park Station on Instagram to stay connected.

✨ BVNA Spotlight: Shannon Riordan ✨

For this BVNA Spotlight, we’re highlighting neighbor Shannon Riordan, founder of Brand Story Machine, who generously volunteered her time to help BVNA define its brand story and messaging.

What does it take to tell the story of a neighborhood?

Through a collaborative workshop with the board, Shannon helped uncover a clear story, positioning, and personality that now shape how BVNA communicates and connects with neighbors.

What came out of that work was something deeper than expected. A story rooted in nature, adventure, and the “wild, magical energy” of Buena Vista, along with themes of resilience, neighborly spirit, and connection.

As Shannon puts it, a brand isn’t just a logo or a tagline. It lives in people’s hearts and minds. And that applies just as much to a neighborhood as it does to any company.

That foundation now helps guide BVNA’s newsletters, events, and overall voice, and shows how thoughtful storytelling can bring a community together around a shared identity.

☕️✨ BVNA Spotlight: Corona Heights Coffee Club

Every Friday at 7am, neighbors gather at the top of Corona Heights with coffee and sunrise views 🌅 — a simple way to meet the people who live around you.

Started by neighbors Gabe and Ashley as something “small, intentional, and very local,” the Coffee Club has grown into a weekly meetup where strangers become neighbors and neighbors become friends, helping the neighborhood feel a little more like a village.

There’s always a little extra French press to share ☕️, a short weekly “town hall” where neighbors can share what’s happening around the neighborhood 💬, and even plans for future pancake mornings on the hill 🥞

📍 Fridays • 7am • Top of Corona Heights
☕️ Bring your own coffee (or tea)
👋 Just show up

🌟 Our very first BVNA Spotlight: Haight-NoPa Repair Café 🔧☕🌟

Meet Courtney and Claire, the neighbors behind the Haight-NoPa Repair Café, a volunteer-run space where broken items get fixed and community gets built.

“The Haight-NoPa Repair Café is a local volunteer-driven initiative to help reduce waste, save resources and money, and bring joy to the local community.”

At each event, neighbors bring everything from sweaters to lamps, and volunteers work together to repair them. While you wait, there are homemade treats… and when something gets fixed, there’s even a celebratory “Repaired!” bell 🔔

So far, they’ve repaired about 80 items and created a space full of learning, generosity, and connection.

Get involved and join them on:
