Fire Chief Jason Boatright took the time to recognize a few personnel at our Wednesday training session, October 21, 2026.
Captain Mike Hargrove, Engineers Ryan Lynch and Austin Garrett along with Firefighter Max Evans recently traveled to GPSTC in Forsyth and obtained a certification in Water Mapping. This course demonstrates the effectiveness on how water travels and maps across room surfaces by utilizing proper nozzle angles, stream movement, and steep-angle ceiling/wall sweeping to maximize surface cooling and fire extinguishment. This certification gives our firefighters more knowledge and skill when actively suppressing fire, and it gives them the ability to utilize the learned tactics to hopefully decrease the likelihood of fire and water damage.
Assistant Fire Chief Nathan Riner and Training Captain Todd May recently obtained Fire Officer Level 2 (Fire Department Management) at Augusta Fire Department. This 80 hour course certifies the fire officer as a mid-level supervisor and company officer who manages multi-unit emergency operations, administration, and personnel (career and volunteer). The fire officer series is comprised of four levels and it is designed to provide the student the necessary supervisory training to ensure organizational success and prepare their departments for the future of the fire service.
Continuous training and education are the most critical components in any fire organization, and it is to ensure you receive adequate fire protection services. Our department is committed to providing the necessary training to all personnel so we can fulfill this commitment.
Congratulations to all above-listed members for accomplishing professional development goals and keeping the department on a forward path to better serve the citizens of Sandersville and Washington County.
