On May 25, Consul General Iyori and Mrs. Iyori attended the 81st Annual Memorial Day Service at Lake View Cemetery, presented by the Nisei Veterans Committee and the NVC Foundation. The service included a flag ceremony by Boy Scout Troop 252, prayers by local religious leaders, and remarks by The Hon. Jim McDermott, former U.S. Congressman, and Mr. Nyle Miyamoto, whose father served in the U.S. Army’s 442nd Regimental Combat Team during World War II. Consul General and Mrs. Iyori joined Japanese American community leaders in placing wreaths at the Nisei War Memorial Monument to honor fallen Japanese American soldiers.

5月25日、伊従総領事夫妻は、二世退役軍人委員会（NVC）及びNVC財団が主催する、レイクビュー墓地での第81回メモリアルデー追悼式典に出席しました。式典では、ボーイスカウト第252団による国旗掲揚式、地元の宗教指導者による祈祷、そして元米国下院議員のジム・マクダーモット氏、及び第二次世界大戦中に米陸軍第442連隊戦闘団で従軍した父を持つナイル・ミヤモト氏による挨拶が行われました。伊従総領事夫妻は、日系アメリカ人コミュニティの指導者らと共に、戦没した日系アメリカ人兵士を偲び、二世戦没者記念碑に花輪を捧げました。

On May 23, Deputy Consul General Tsuge participated in the 50th anniversary of Kisaragi-kai (Japanese Women’s Association). We sincerely appreciate the members who, for the past 50 years, have supported Seattle’s Japanese community and advanced the appreciation of Japanese culture throughout the region.

On May 13, Consul Kosugi attended the 65th anniversary ceremony and dinner reception celebrating the sister-city relationship between Nishinomiya, Hyogo Prefecture, and Spokane, Washington, where he delivered remarks. Since the sister-city agreement was signed in 1961, many people have served as bridges of friendship between the two cities by participating in student exchanges or working as Assistant Language Teachers (ALTs). In 1990, Mukogawa Women's University, based in Nishinomiya, established a campus in Spokane, where it has long welcomed Japanese students and promoted Japanese culture.

At the event, a cherry tree planting ceremony was held with the participation of Spokane Mayor Lisa Brown. The dinner reception also featured a kagami-biraki ceremony using locally brewed sake from Nishinomiya, as well as a presentation by participants of the study abroad program in Nishinomiya.

We extend our deepest gratitude to all those who have worked to build and nurture the friendship between these two cities, and hope that this bond of friendship will continue to grow and flourish in the years to come.

5月13日、小杉領事は、ワシントン州スポケーン市で開催されたスポケーン市と兵庫県西宮市の姉妹都市65周年記念式典及びディナーレセプションに参加し、挨拶を行いました。1961年に協定が締ばれて以来、多くの方が交換留学生や外国語指導助手（ALT）として、両市の友好の架け橋となってきました。また、1990年には、西宮市に本拠地を置く武庫川女子大学がスポケーン市にキャンパスを設置し、長年にわたって日本人留学生の受入れと日本文化の発信を行ってこられています。

当日は、リサ・ブラウン・スポケーン市長の参加のもと、桜の植樹式が行われたほか、ディナーレセプションでは、西宮市の地酒を使った鏡開きと、西宮市への交換留学プログラムに参加した方からの報告会もあわせて行われました。

両市の友好な関係を築かれてきた関係者の皆様に深い感謝の意を表すとともに、今後もこの友好の輪が広がっていくことを願っています。

From the vibrant festivities at the JCCCW in Seattle to the Tacoma/Kitakyushu partnership honored at Tacoma’s Point Defiance Pagoda, we had incredible weekends celebrating the spirit and growth of our children for Kodomo no Hi.

This year’s Children’s Day festivals brought the community together through traditional performances, hands-on crafts, and a shared appreciation for Japanese heritage across the Sound.

Thank you to everyone who joined us in making these celebrations so memorable. If you missed this year’s festivals, don’t worry, we’ll remind you next year!

シアトルのワシントン州日本文化会館（JCCCW）での賑やかなお祝いから、タコマのポイント・デファイアンス日本庭園で行われたタコマ・北九州姉妹都市主催のイベントまで、こどもの日を通じて子どもたちの健やかな成長を祝う素晴らしい週末となりました。

今年のこどもの日フェスティバルでは、伝統的なパフォーマンスやクラフト、そして日本の文化を通じて、ピュージェット・サウンド一帯のコミュニティが一つになりました。
