Celebrating 35 years of sister-city friendship between Ferndale, Washington, and Minamiboso, Japan! Our heartfelt thanks to all who have nurtured this bond over the years.
Ferndale’s rich cultural diversity shone through performances at the celebration event held on October 24, including those by members of the Lummi Nation. Thank you all for the wonderful performances!

ワシントン州ファーンデール市と日本の南房総市との姉妹都市交流が35周年を迎えました！長年にわたり、この絆を育んでこられたすべての皆様に心から感謝申し上げます。

On October 22, Consul General Hirota hosted a rakugo performance by Katsura Sunshine to share Japanese culture with the Seattle community. Laughter is a universal language, and the audience loved this classic form of Japanese comedy! Thank you, Katsura-shisho, for a wonderful performance!

🇯🇵🤝🇺🇸 Consul General Hirota paid a courtesy call on Lieutenant Governor of Washington Denny Heck and discussed the strong friendship between Japan and Washington.
Since arriving in Seattle, CG Hirota has experienced the warmth and hospitality of this community. He looks forward to meeting people across the state and further deepening the ties between Japan and Washington.

On October 19, Deputy Consul General Tsuge visited the Japanese Cultural & Community Center of Washington (JCCCW) and met with Executive Director Karen Yosh*tomi.

Originally established as a Japanese language school, this historic building continues to preserve and celebrate the rich history and culture of Japanese Americans in the Pacific Northwest.

Today, the Center remains a vibrant gathering place where people come to study Japanese, experience Japanese culture, and participate in community activities. It serves as a living bridge between generations and cultures.

Don’t miss JCCCW’s annual “Bunka no Hi (Culture Day)” celebration on Sunday, November 1!

10月19日、津下首席領事は、ワシントン州日本文化会館を訪れ、カレン・ヨシトミ事務局長と面会しました。100年以上前に日本語学校の校舎として設立された建物には、当地の日系アメリカ人の歴史と文化が大切に保存されています。茶室や道場等も備えた同会館では、今日も多くの人が集い、日本語を学び、日本文化を体験しています。来る11月1日（日）には毎年恒例の「文化の日」が開催されますので、お見逃しなく！

On October 16, Consul General Hirota and Mrs. Hirota toured the Nisei Veterans Committee Memorial Hall, guided by NVC Commander Dale Watanabe. Consul General Hirota was honored to learn more about the rich history of Japanese Americans from knowledgeable community leaders.

On October 15, Consul General Hirota and Mrs. Hirota hosted an Assumption of Office Reception at the Official Residence. The reception was attended by First Lady of Washington Colleen Ferguson, state legislators, and other distinguished guests.

In his opening remarks, Consul General Hirota expressed his pleasure at serving in Washington State, home to one of the largest Japanese American communities in the United States and a longtime sister state of his native Hyogo Prefecture. State Senator Adrian Cortes welcomed the Consul General to Washington State with remarks, followed by a toast from State Representative Sharon Tomiko Santos, who expressed hope for the continued strengthening of Japan–U.S. friendship.

The evening provided an opportunity to deepen ties in a warm and welcoming atmosphere.

10月15日、廣田総領事夫妻は、公邸で着任レセプションを開催しました。レセプションには、ファーガソン州知事夫人を始め、州政府・州議会議員等の参加を得ました。

着任挨拶で廣田総領事は、故郷の兵庫県と長い姉妹都市にあり、米国でも最大規模の日系コミュニティを擁する当地で勤務できる喜びを伝えました。続いて、エイドリアン・コルテス州上院議員の来賓挨拶とシャロン・トミコ・サントス州下院議員による乾杯で、日米友好関係のさらなる強化が祈念され、温かな雰囲気の中で交流を深める一夜となりました。
