Dolores Huerta made America a better place for workers and women, moving our nation forward. North Carolina flags will be lowered to half mast tomorrow, October 29. Let us honor her legacy by continuing to extend the promise of this nation to all who call it home. May her memory be a blessing.

Time: 11:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.

Village of Simpson Ballpark and Recreation Area Rededication
2708 Telfaire Street
Simpson, NC 27879

For more than 50 years, the Village of Simpson has been proud to serve our community and provide spaces where residents can gather, connect, and enjoy the outdoors.
On this day, we will celebrate the rededication of our ballpark and recreation area and the improvements made possible through the support of multiple local and state grants. These investments have allowed us to upgrade the ballpark fencing, improve electrical and water infrastructure, expand bleacher seating, add disc golf baskets and equipment, and refresh existing equipment with new paint.
These improvements represent more than upgrades to a recreational facility. They reflect our commitment to investing in our community, enhancing the quality of life for our residents, and preserving these spaces for future generations. As we cut the ribbon today, we look forward to seeing families, children, and residents of all ages enjoying these facilities for many years to come.
This is your community, your ballpark, and your place to make memories.
Thank you to our funding partners, community supporters, and everyone who helped make these improvements possible. Together, we are building a stronger, more vibrant Village of Simpson.

Flags across North Carolina will be at half staff through September 10 in honor of Gloria Steinem.

Steinem was a powerhouse journalist and advocate for freedom and equality. Her work inspired so many and helped women in the United States and across the world make real strides. And when women succeed, families and communities are stronger. May her memory be a blessing.

Governor Josh Stein has ordered all U.S. and North Carolina flags at state facilities to half-staff from sunrise August 26, 2026, through sunset September 1, 2026, in honor of country music icon and philanthropist Dolly Parton, who passed away on Tuesday.

Born in Tennessee, Parton was known for not only her vocal ability but also her skills as a songwriter, writing classic hit songs such as "Jolene" and "I Will Always Love You." In addition to a legendary music career, Parton was an actress, a philanthropist, and a successful businesswoman, famously known for her theme park, Dollywood. Her Imagination Library program has provided more than 300 million free books to children since its launch in 1995.

Statement from Governor Josh Stein

“Dolly Parton was so special: authentic and universally loved. Her music was powerful and moving, and she leaves a lasting impact — from providing kids free books to funding vaccine research and promoting tolerance. America lost one of our best today. May her memory be a blessing.”
