The Southborough Fire Department is excited to announce the purchase of 45 StoveTop FireStops through the Senior SAFE Grant! These lifesaving devices will be installed in apartments at 49 Boston Road Senior Housing, helping prevent cooking fires from becoming larger emergencies. With future Senior SAFE Grant funding, we hope to build on this initiative and provide StoveTop FireStops for the remaining apartments.

The Southborough Fire Department is heartbroken to share the loss of Bea Ginga, our town’s beloved “unofficial mayor.”

Bea led with her heart. For more than 50 years, she cared for the Southborough Community House, where so many in our town have celebrated everything from visits with Santa to baby and bridal showers, and even our own department holiday party. She advocated for the seniors in our town, delivered meals to neighbors in need, and championed many other causes along the way.

Bea cheered on this community at every turn. She was a true friend of the department, and a familiar, smiling face at Dunkin’ every morning, where she greeted everyone like family.

To us, and to so many others, Bea embodied everything good about Southborough. Her kindness and pride in this town will stay with us forever.

Our thoughts are with Bea’s family and friends. Rest easy. Southborough won’t be the same without you.

Congratulations to Town Clerk Jim Hegarty on his retirement!

Since becoming Town Clerk in 2015, Jim has been a steady friend to the Southborough Fire Department. He swore in members of our department, and he even presided over the marriage of one of our own right outside the station this past summer.

As a token of our appreciation for his years of service and support, Chief Andrew Puntini presented Jim with a helmet shield.

Jim, thank you for everything you've done for our department and for Southborough. We wish you a happy, healthy, and well-deserved retirement!
