It’s that time of year again, time to “fall back” with daylight saving time, so don’t forget to set your clocks back one hour before heading to bed tonight. Daylight saving time officially ends at 2:00am on Sunday morning.

While most of us will be adjusting our alarms and catching an extra hour of sleep after a night of trick-or-treating, our night shift deputies, telecommunicators and correctional officers are adjusting their schedules to ensure that the Washington County Sheriff’s Office is here, keeping our community safe all night long.

Happy Halloween! If you're heading out for some fun and treats tonight, remember these tips:

* Stay alert—extra foot traffic means more unexpected activity on roads and sidewalks
* Parents/guardians: accompany young children or ensure they are in supervised groups
* Drivers: slow down in residential areas and expect frequent pedestrian crossings
* Make visibility a priority—flashlights, glow sticks, and reflective gear help prevent accidents
* Inspect all treats before consumption and discard anything unwrapped or suspicious
* Stick with friends and plan a clear route and return time
* Report suspicious activity to local law enforcement promptly

Looking for a fun and impactful way to spend your Saturday?

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office will be joining dozens of other Minnesota law enforcement agencies tomorrow at the 5th Annual Pink Patch Project Collector’s Show in the Rosemount Community Center Banquet Hall from 9:00am to 1:00pm.

Stop by and visit with Deputy Donavon Bump who will be selling Washington County Pink Patch patches (both our current and throwback patch) as well as pink challenge coins, all proceeds benefit the American Cancer Society.

Last year the Minnesota Pink Patch Project was the American Cancer Society's 2025 Spirit of Strides North Region Team of the Year. Tomorrow, you can help us carry on that legacy by supporting the Pink Patch Project and our fight against cancer.

See you tomorrow!

National First Responders Day.

A day to recognize the brave men and women who protect our communities, who calmly respond to crisis and work to resolve each emergency. To those who remain the calm voice in the chaos or the helping hand during the unimaginable.

Thank you telecommunicators, correctional officers, deputies, detectives, Sheriff's administration and support staff for your countless hours of training and preparation to make yourselves the very best when serving your community.

While we feel the support from all corners of the county, we want to extend a special thank you to Cornerstone Chevrolet Stillwater for selecting the Washington County Sheriff’s Office as this year’s Chevy Cares donation recipient.

Thank you for your donation, but more importantly thank you for your consistent, unwavering and continual support of our local heroes.

Thank you Wildwood Elementary School and the Mahtomedi Parent Teacher Organization for having us at your Truck-or-Treat event this past weekend. We had a fa-boo-lous time handing out goodies, seeing all of you and even recruiting some new deputies!

Last week a recognition ceremony was held for the Washington County Reserves, where Reserves Joe Anderson and Tim Ailport were both recognized for their 5 years of volunteer service with the Sheriff’s Office and Reserve Nick Suter was recognized for his 10 years of service.

Reserves Anderson, Ailport and Suter are just three of our unarmed, non-licensed community members who have volunteered their time to support deputies with tasks such as traffic control at large events, securing major crime scene perimeters and assisting the Water Parks and Trails Unit on our waterways and county parks.

These volunteers are motivated by a desire to serve their community in a meaningful way with a mission to create and enhance safety practices leading to a crime free community by working in partnership with the Washington County Sheriff’s Office and the community, with a focus on quality public safety services.

Joe, Tim and Nick, thank you for sharing your time and talents with us. We are thankful for the difference you make in our communities.
