As we continue celebrating National Public Works Week, here’s a quote from OCWA engineer Debbie on why public works matters to her:

"I enjoy working in public works because I get to see projects evolve from the initial concept all the way through to completion, and there's a sense of pride in watching something tangible come to life. It also gives me a sense of purpose to assist with projects that will benefit so many people now and in the future (whether they realize it or not).

Just as rewarding are the relationships built along the way. I've met so many dedicated people and those connections are what make the work especially joyful."

In honor of National Public Works Week, we asked OCWA team members what they love about public works. Here’s what Rocco from Meter Repair had to say:

"Working in public works allows me to see how all the pieces of the water system fit together to deliver safe, reliable water to our community.

It's rewarding to know that the work we do every day helps keep homes and families connected to something they depend on."

During , OCWA would like to recognize the dedicated staff who keep your water flowing—operators, lab technicians, maintenance teams, engineers, meter repair technicians, and more. Working 24/7, they treat and test water, repair and upgrade systems, and ensure reliable service for homes, schools, businesses, and the community.

We also want to shine a light on the equally important people working behind the scenes—our meter readers, customer service representatives, billing and accounting teams, administrative staff, and support personnel—who make sure our community stays informed, supported and connected.

Providing clean, safe drinking water is truly a team effort, and it wouldn’t be possible without each and every one of you.

Thank you for your dedication to serving our community today and every day!

At OCWA, public service is at the heart of everything we do. A meaningful reminder from our own Jennie Stowell about why public service matters!

During Public Service Recognition Week, we are sharing reflections from some members on why they are involved in public service and what remains important to them.

In honor of all our members, thank you for your continued commitment and service to communities across New York.
