The Athens SWCD was organized in 1946 for the purpose of planning and carrying out natural resources conservation programs.

The District is a political subdivision of the State of Ohio and is governed by a board of supervisors, elected by the landowners.

Good luck at State!

The Athens FFA Forestry Team recently put their skills to the test at the State Forestry CDE at Hocking College! 🌲🌳

In preparation for the contest, students worked with experts in the field to build their skills in tree identification, orienteering, estimating logs from standing trees, reading topographic maps, and forestry tool identification.

The team spent their Saturday morning at Hocking College demonstrating what they had learned and doing their best not to tumble down the hills during the orienteering station!

A huge thank you to Whitney Byrd with the Athens County SWCD and Bill Serbonich with NRCS for taking the time to work with our students and share their knowledge and expertise. We truly appreciate your support of our FFA members!

We would also like to thank Hocking College and its staff for hosting and organizing the contest and providing our students with such a great hands-on learning experience.

🦌 The Ohio Landowner-Hunter Access Partnership (OLHAP) program opens an avenue for hunters to access private land and landowners to receive incentives for allowing hunter access. New properties were added for the 2026-27 season. Hunters can access enrolled properties with a free daily permit. 🎟️
