The Kiwanis Club of Tulsa is a motivated group of men and women who believe that service to the community is the way to build a stronger city. We focus primarily on the youth of the Tulsa area. Through specific projects we enhance the educational opportunities, social improvement, and leadership development of our young citizens. Through all of this we build strong relationships with one another and at the same time have fun while we impact the Tulsa area.

This week's program at the Kiwanis Club was a presentation regarding some of the work involved with researching the Tulsa Race Massacre of 1921. Dr. Phoeba Stubblefield and Brenda Alford provided a thorough and articulate explanation of the efforts to develop an accurate description of the incident. The process of identification of the remains found in the mass grave was a particular interest. The efforts to accurately describe the efforts of the researchers was fascinating. Tulsa Kiwanis makes every effort to present timely and factual descriptions of community incidents.

Join us, Mondays at noon at Baxter's in downtown Tulsa.

Interesting meeting for Tulsa Kiwanians due to the scheduled speaker having to cancel. After the usual opening activities, the President brought up some issues raised in recent discussions. Honorary Memberships, nominations for 2026-27 Officers and Bord of Directors, attendance at the TX-OK District Convention and the Kiwanis Club of Bartlesville's miniature golf course were all on the table for discussion. This was followed by an interesting presentation by Tess Mack describing her experience and the TX-OK Governor's visit. Tess is one of the club's newer members and her enthusiasm should be a terrific asset to the club.

After Monday's meeting. Kiwanis President Harvey Fields and Treasurer Mark Smith delivered the final installment of the Club's "April Shower" effort for Emergency Infant Services. Over $3000 was raised plus some supplies and toddler equipment was the result of this year's effort. We welcomed the contribution from the Tulsa Rotary Club and hope this may signal the possoibility of some cooperative efforts in the future.

Alyssa McNiel of the Tulsa chapter of the Make-A-Wish foundation addressed this week's meeting of the Tulsa Kiwanis Club. She did a great job of explaining how the foundation works with children with serious medical conditions to grant their wishes. The wishes may be a trip to a child theme attraction, the opportunity to meet a hero and more. While Alyssa did explain fundraising and planning and screening of requests, her focus was on joy. The joy seen on the faces of the children who receive generous responses to their wishes and the joy felt by the workers and volunteers who witness these children as their wishes come true.
