The GWOT Memorial Foundation leads the efforts to build the National Global War on Terrorism Memorial

The Global War on Terrorism Memorial will be a lasting tribute to the courage and sacrifice of all who have served, and especially those who have made the ultimate sacrifice, in the nation’s longest war to protect our country, while inspiring all Americans to stand united behind those who continue to serve.

June is PTS Awareness Month and we want to start it by talking about something that matters.

We don’t use the word “disorder.” Here’s why: post-traumatic stress is not a sign that something is wrong with a person. It is a sign that something very hard happened to them. Veterans across the country are living with it, often silently, and the stigma around the word “disorder” makes it harder to ask for help.

Last year on PTS Awareness Day, our President & CEO Michael “Rod” Rodríguez sat down with Uniformed Veteran Fellow Scott DeLuzio and Non-uniformed Veteran Fellow Gunner Wagh to talk honestly about trauma, isolation, healing, and why language matters.

Watch the full conversation and learn more about why we advocate to say “post-traumatic stress”: https://bit.ly/4e0NxHu

If you know someone who should see this, please share it with them.

Our CEO, Michael Rodríguez, and Gold Star Child Fellow, Nahsir Knight-Bell, attended the Freedom Alliance Defender of Freedom Gala.

The evening honored Sam Brown — Army Infantry officer, combat veteran, Purple Heart recipient, and current Under Secretary for Memorial Affairs at the VA — with the 2026 Edward J. Bronars Defender of Freedom Award.

Our Johnny Micheal Spann Ally remains steadfast in their commitment to supporting Gold Star families, military heroes, and wounded service members. We are grateful to support and witness their work.

Years of diligent work. Countless conversations with Gold Star families, veterans, uniformed and non-uniformed service members. One design concept.

On Wednesday, June 10 at 10 AM ET, we will unveil the design concept for the Global War on Terrorism Memorial for the very first time to the public.

This is a milestone years in the making. If you’ve ever wished for a place to honor those who served, reflect on sacrifice, heal, or unite as a community, we invite you to experience it.

For more than two decades, men, women, and their families have chosen country over self in the Global War on Terrorism. Their belief and their courage must be remembered.

It is for all of them that we will build a Memorial honoring their valor. 🇺🇸

This morning, Gold Star families, veterans, and supporters gathered in silence as Taps carried across the National Mall played by the Doughboy Foundation in coordination with the National Mall and Memorial Parks.

We will build this Memorial because their names deserve a place to be spoken.

Whose name will you carry today? Share it with us in the comments.

We joined the Amazon.com Veteran Employee Resource Group for a dialogue centered on remembrance, service, and the mission to build the Global War on Terrorism Memorial. The room brought together veterans, military community members, and allies who understand the importance of this mission.

GWOTMF President & CEO Michael Rodríguez opened the event with remarks on the future Memorial and the mission to honor all who served and sacrificed. The program continued with a panel discussion featuring members of the GWOTMF Leadership Team and Design Advisory Council. Rod Rodríguez, Jennifer Ballou, Elliot Ackerman, Alex Hernandez, and Keith Walawender shared perspectives shaped by service and lived experience.

Thank you, Amazon, for bringing this community together and helping build awareness for the Memorial we are working to bring to our Nation’s capital.
