With sadness, we share the news that effective September 30, 2026, the National Treatment Court Center has closed its doors.

It was a pleasure to serve the treatment court field for the last 7 years. Together with our partners and stakeholders, we worked to build a clearer, more connected picture of treatment courts across the country, and we’re proud of what we created along the way:

Thank you to our co-directors, Dr. Christina Lanier and Dr. Kristen DeVall, for leading us every step of the way, and to our directors, Dr. Ron Vetter, Dr. Sally MacKain, and Dr. Jeanne Persuit, for supporting all of our efforts as an interdisciplinary team. Thank you also to our full-time and part-time staff and our undergraduate and graduate students. Each of you brought talent, energy, and heart to this work.

This Mental Health Treatment Court is an example of addressing "the root causes" through care and support rather than punishment alone.

Cherokee Nation Principal Chief Chuck Hoskin Jr. announced during Mental Health Awareness Month that the tribe plans to begin a mental health treatment court within its justice system.

North Carolina Supreme Court Chief Justice Paul Newby has proclaimed May 2026 as Recovery Court Month for the state.

This recognizes the impact of more than 80 recovery courts across the state and the professionals who make this work possible every day. For more than 30 years, these programs have helped participants rebuild their lives, while also strengthening communities.
