Yesterday was a momentous occasion for Family Promise of Northern New Castle County. After six years of work, we were thrilled to host our grand opening ceremony on Monday for our new shelter for families with children.

Our new facility will shelter 8 families (32 parents & their children) at any given time. Families will be provided private bedrooms, their own private bathroom, a communal living space, a kitchenette and free washers and dryers. Our facility also comes equipped with a new dining room and commercial kitchen to ensure food security is provided addition to shelter.

The joint efforts of hundreds of warmhearted, compassionate individuals brought this facility to life. Our staff, board, volunteers, supporters, public and private partners all played a role in bringing our new shelter to fruition. We are truly grateful to our network.

While many were involved, we’re especially grateful to our supportive elected officials. Thank you U.S. Senator Lisa Blunt Rochester, Governor Matt Meyer, County Executive Marcus Henry, Senator Jack Walsh, Rep. Frank Burns, and Delaware State Housing Authority (DSHA) Director Matt Heckles.

We’re looking forward to putting our new shelter to use, and helping an additional 8 families at any given time secure and remain permanently housed!
