Update on the detour along Chingola-Chililabombwe Road

Infrastructure ,Housing and Urban Development d d Minister Engineer Charles Lubasi Milupi has taken charge of the response to the Kakoso Bridge collapse, demanding restoration of traffic flow within 48 hours. The bridge, a critical economic corridor linking Chingola and Chililabombwe, was damaged due to excessive stormwater.

"This road is an economic lifeline. It must be restored urgently. We cannot afford prolonged disruption," The Minister emphasized during an on-site inspection earlier today.

The minister has since directed AVIC, the contractor responsible for the road under a Public-Private Partnership, to:
- Speed up construction of an alternative route
- Open a detour for smooth traffic flow
- Engage the Defence Force for additional support

"If you need additional help to speed up this project, seek the Defence Force for more manpower and equipment where necessary to ensure the works are completed ahead of schedule," Engineer Milupi instructed.

The Joint Defence Force Task Force, Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit, and Road Development Agency are providing technical support to prevent future structural failures.

Traffic between Chililabombwe and Chingola is disrupted, but Eng. Milupi's firm directive aims to restore the corridor swiftly.
