Today is Smoke Alarm Action Day, and together with fire agencies across Australia we are asking everyone to check their smoke alarms.
With recent house fires in our area, we are urging EVERYONE to please check your smoke alarms.
It is also recommended that all smoke alarms be powered by a non-removable 10-year battery.
Working smoke alarms save lives.
It only takes 2 seconds to push the button
Take action today.
If you have any questions or want more information, head to cfa.vic.gov.au/smokealarms Or message us and we will do our best to point you in the right direction!

Last weekend, three members from the Ararat Fire Brigade attended the West Region Women’s Challenge Camp at Cave Hill Creek.
The weekend was packed with fun and challenging activities, including ropes courses, raft building (yes… many participants ended up in the lake!), and an orienteering race to the finish.
But weekends like these are about far more than just fun. They provide an opportunity for women within the CFA to learn, grow, challenge themselves, and step outside their comfort zones. Participants also took part in workshops and panel discussions, hearing from other women across the organisation about the challenges they have faced and the ways they have overcome them throughout their CFA journey.
Attendees also had the opportunity to speak with CFA CEO Greg Leach about any questions, concerns, and ideas they had.
Prue, Peta, and Michelle returned home a little tired and sore, but with new friendships, valuable connections, greater confidence, and new strategies to support them in their ongoing CFA journey.
We’re incredibly proud of them for representing our brigade so well.

As well as being National Volunteer week, it was also ROAD SAFETY WEEK. 🚗🚙🛻
In the last 12 months, CFA has attended over 5,300 collisions.
In that number Ararat Fire Brigade has attended 35 calls to motor vehicle accidents. That is roughly 3 Motor vehicle accidents a month. More than 3 lives affected per month, not to mention the toll on our first responders, the families.
Our teams are fully equipped and ready to help when these incidents occur, but in a perfect world, we wouldn't need to attend any at all.
It takes all of us to drive real change, remember to take breaks on longer trips and slow down on the roads and when passing emergency services 🚒

NATIONAL VOLUNTEER WEEK
This week marks National Volunteer Week — Australia’s largest annual celebration of volunteering, recognising the incredible contributions volunteers have made to communities across the country since 1989.
The 2026 theme is “Your Year to Volunteer.”
Here at the Ararat Fire Brigade, we are incredibly grateful for our dedicated team of volunteers. We would also like to acknowledge and thank the many volunteers and organisations we work alongside and support within our community.
There are countless organisations that rely solely on volunteers to help keep our communities safe, supported, fed, clothed, housed, connected and healthy.
If you have ever considered volunteering, now is the perfect time. You do not need to give up all of your spare time — every contribution makes a difference. Whether it’s with the Ararat Fire Brigade 🚒, SES Ararat Unit 🥕, your local neighbourhood house 🏠, Rotary, Lions Club, animal shelters 🐕, or any other community organisation, volunteering is an incredibly rewarding experience.
To every volunteer out there — thank you for the time, care and dedication you give to our communities each and every day. 👏🚒💛

Today we say a heartfelt Thank You to all the mums and mother figures out there. We hope your day is filled with hot tea or coffee while it’s still warm, the dishes being done for you, and at least a few moments of peace and relaxation! ❤️
Today we also want to recognise and thank the incredible mums and mother figures in our lives:
The ones who raised us, encouraged us, and supported us throughout our CFA journey.
The ones who are proud of us and continue to push us to keep going.
🚒To the mums within our brigade who drop everything to respond when our community needs help, while also raising the next generation of firefighters and little ones who dream of following in their footsteps. 🚒
And to the mums of our children — thank you for holding down the fort at home when the pager goes off and for supporting us in everything we do. We know it’s not easy being left with the kids, the household, and everything in between at a moment’s notice, and we are incredibly grateful for everything you do.
Happy Mother’s Day to all the amazing mums and mother figures. 💐

🌧️❄️ The cold and wet weather has well and truly arrived! ❄️🌧️
With the change in seasons, many of us are turning to our clothes dryers a little more often. While they’re a great convenience, it’s important to make sure they’re being used safely.
Lint build-up is one of the leading causes of dryer fires — but the good news is it’s easy to prevent with a few simple habits.
👉 Clean the lint filter before every use
👉 Don’t run your dryer while you’re asleep or out of the house
👉 Always let the dryer complete its full cool-down cycle
A quick check can make a big difference in keeping your home and family safe this winter. 🔥🏠
Stay warm, stay safe!
