Last week the Year 1/2 students participated in an incursion facilitated by Swinburne University.

Students inquired into what heat is and the different ways heat is generated and transferred 🔥🔥

They used thermometers and thermal imaging cameras to understand the movement of heat between materials 🌡️

It was fantastic to see students so engaged and show the IB learner profiles of ‘inquirer’ and ‘thinker’ 🤔

They especially loved the hands on activities! 🤩

Students were eager to write a recount about their time at incursion to share their new knowledge.

Last week Prep students participated in the Responsible Pet Ownership program.

Melissa and her gorgeous dog, Henry(a Golden Retriever x Cocker Spaniel), visited us to teach the Preps how to safely approach a dog, which dogs we should avoid approaching, and how to be responsible pet owners by caring for our dogs properly.

The students loved meeting Henry and learning how to stay safe around dogs.

Thank you Melissa and Henry for visiting, there were many valuable lessons learned!

You may have noticed a few extra bikes around the school this morning…

That’s because it’s the first Friday of Term 4, which means our Year 6 students had their first Bike Ed session today!

Running every Friday morning throughout Term 4, Bike Ed is a fantastic opportunity for students to develop their cycling skills, learn about bike safety and build the confidence they need to ride safely around our community.

October is Mental Health Awareness month, and this Saturday 10th October is World Mental Health Day

Our Year 5/6 students had a great day at Sovereign Hill as a provocation for their upcoming unit.

Gold pouring, panning for gold and, of course, the lolly shop were some of the favourite parts of the day. We can’t wait to see where their learning takes them next!

With the September finals well underway, footy fever has certainly arrived at GPS!

We were lucky to have some beautiful weather for our Footy Day, with plenty of fun activities thanks to KABOOM! Kid Sports.

A special thank you to St Kilda’s Jack Higgins for visiting and sharing an insight into life as a professional AFL athlete, including how he looks after his physical and mental health and wellbeing throughout the season.

A big thank you once again to our incredible school community for coming along to support our Year 5/6 students and their stalls.

Our students have worked wonderfully throughout this project, developing a business model, pitching their ideas to Mrs Gurney in a Shark Tank-style presentation to secure a budget, and creating their fantastic products.

It was a fantastic opportunity for our mini entrepreneurs to explore the process of starting a business and everything that comes with it.
