Lane Cove Bush Kids

It was action-packed at today's Snooze activity, starting with songs and a close look at the rarely seen Long-nosed Bandicoot, a day-time sleeper. On our bushwalk we learnt which animals are awake or asleep during the day, had fun with puppets and even found an animal that never sleeps... the termite!

Wombats were great inspiration for our song, craft and walk today. We spotted wombat-sized holes, cube-shaped p**p and even used our nose like a wombat to sniff out a peppermint gum... and discovered that wombats are really amazing creatures!

"Kookaburra sits in the old gum tree..." the song proved correct with early rain providing perfect conditions for our Kookaburras Kapers activity this morning. We watched two Kookaburras hunt for worms and grubs in the damp soil.

On our bushwalk we spotted three Kookaburra homes and found out about all the different foods the Kookaburras like to eat. Bark rubbing and blue feathers helped create life-like Kookaburras for our craft. Very koo-koo-kaa-kaa-kool!

Today on our search for Bunyip babies, we learnt about all the kinds of egg-laying creatures that we can find in our creeks - frogs, fish, turtles and eels. It was lovely to see the creek flowing beautifully after the early morning rain and to watch the Kookaburras catching all the worms!

Today at our Magical Stones activity, we took a closer look at colour-changing stones, explored a sandstone cave on our bushwalk and painted our own pebble to take home.
