πŸ’–πŸŒŸ

Happy 100th Birthday to the living legend that is Sir David Attenborough - an extraordinary human who has devoted his life to environmental education, whose passion and advocacy for the natural world inspire us all.

Perhaps you can celebrate him today by getting outdoors and appreciating the wonder of nature; sitting outside with your coffee, practicing some yoga in the park, taking a bush walk, planting a native tree, or doing a spot of bird watching!

Date of issue: 02:40 PM, 04 May 2026.

Please note this warning is now a Bushfire Advice - Monitor Conditions due to a reduction in fire activity. Please note updates throughout.

⚠️ A Bushfire Advice is in place for people in an area bounded by Herdsman Lake, Selby Street North, Walters Drive, Herdsman Parade and Moondine Drive in GLENDALOUGH, OSBORNE PARK and WEMBLEY in the TOWN OF CAMBRIDGE and CITY OF STIRLING.

⚠ There is no threat to lives or homes.

⚠ There is a lot of smoke in the area.

❗ WHAT TO DO ❗

- Stay alert and monitor your surroundings.
- Avoid walk trails in the warning area.
- Read through your plan and decide what you will do if the situation gets worse. If you do not have a plan, make one now on Emergency WA emergency.wa.gov.au/plan, or in the Emergency WA app.
- Watch for signs of a bushfire, especially smoke and flames.
- Close all doors and windows, and turn off evaporative air conditioners but keep water running through the system if possible.
- If you have a respiratory condition and you have been affected by smoke you should contact your local doctor or call 1800MEDICARE (1800 633 422).

If driving:
- Turn your headlights on and drive slowly.
- Watch for emergency services personnel and follow their directions.
- If you cannot see clearly, pull over, keep your headlights and hazard lights on, and wait until the smoke clears.

πŸ”₯ BUSHFIRE BEHAVIOUR πŸ”₯

- The fire is burning in inaccessible bushland.
- The bushfire is moving in an easterly direction.
- It is contained but not controlled.
- Currently there has been 19.5 hectares burnt.

🚧 ROAD CLOSURES AND CONDITIONS 🚧

Roads have not been closed.

Motorists are asked to avoid the area, reduce speed and drive carefully. Road information may also be available from Main Roads WA by visiting the Main Roads Travel Map, calling 138 138 or by contacting your Local Government Authority.

🚨 WHAT FIREFIGHTERS ARE DOING 🚨

- Firefighters are on the scene.
- Aerial support has been sent to assist ground crews.

🚁 DRONES AND AERIAL SUPPORT 🚁

Never fly a drone, model aircraft or multirotor near bushfires. Doing so poses a major safety risk to firefighting personnel in the air and on the ground, and forces aircraft to be grounded or redirected, hindering firefighting efforts.

A great team effort today, w**ding around seedlings planted last year β˜€οΈ It was also a delightful surprise seeing Kennedia prostrata - running postman (to be confirmed when it flowers 🀞) in the reserve for the first time 🌱

Friends of Herdsman Lake are back in the reserve for 2026 🌱
We've started the year with a successful grant from the Swan Alcoa Landcare Program πŸŽ‰ which will support our ongoing revegetation project at Glendalough Reserve. Also, Natural Area was on-ground in February to carry out woody w**d control in the reserve.

We were out this morning for our last w**ding session of the season! The air was crisp to start, but we soon warmed up as we tackled the fumaria sp. With the w**ds kept in check, our planted seedlings now have a better chance to thrive 🌼πŸ’ͺβ˜€οΈπŸŒ±

We were lucky that the rain held off for our w**ding activity! It was a productive morning-clearing w**ds (mainly climbing fumitory) around native seedlings and even discovering a patch of common mignonette orchids hiding underneath 🌼

A very satisfying morning. Check out the before-and-after photos-and the orchids! πŸ“Έ

🌧️ Rain didn’t stop us! Six determined members braved the drizzle to tackle w**ds around our June-planted seedlingsβ€”hands muddy, spirits high! The plants weren’t the only ones soaking up the rain… we got a drenching too πŸŒ±β˜” Thankfully, it all wrapped up with a warm cuppa and good company. 😊

🌱 Annual Planting Day Success! 🌱

Two weeks ago, we had our annual planting day at Glendalough Reserve and successfully planted 550 seedlings! This impressive effort was made possible thanks to the generous funding from the Swan Alcoa Landcare Program and the support from Parks and Parks and Wildlife Service, Western Australia and WA Gould League. Fortunately, the rain has arrived just in time to give our seedlings a great start 🌧

Thank you to everyone involved! 🌿
