HASS Trip Part 1/2 🌏

Our HASS students have had a busy start to their trip!

At the Anzac Memorial in Hyde Park, students explored Australia’s Second World War experiences and joined the daily 11am commemoration, dropping gold stars into the Shrine of Remembrance to honour fallen NSW servicemen. That afternoon, they toured First Nations history at the Australian Museum, Australia’s first museum, with one guide hailing from Halls Creek. A great WA connection!

In the Blue Mountains, students learnt the history and lore of the Three Sisters, explored the Jamieson Valley rainforest and glided above the treetops to Katoomba Falls, sketching along the way to sharpen their fieldwork skills.

Stay tuned for Part 2!

Please welcome Sergeant Evan Damianopoulos to the Balcatta SHS community!

He is the newly appointed Community and Youth Engagement Coordinator for the Mirrabooka District - WA Police Force. Evan has shared the below bio to help families get to know him.

Evan: With over 37 years of service in the WA Police Force, I am passionate about building strong, positive relationships within our community. In partnership with local schools, I will be visiting students to engage in open, supportive conversations aimed at building trust, promoting understanding, and addressing common misconceptions about policing. These visits will provide a valuable opportunity for students and staff to connect with police in a positive and approachable environment, helping strengthen community confidence and relationships.

You’ll find him at Breakfast Club every Thursday, where he’s getting to know our students and building positive connections. His visits are a great reminder that police are here to help, and we encourage all students to say hi and have a chat.

Sharing some wonderful outcomes from our Year 7 G&T Visual Arts class! 🥛

Students took inspiration from traditional Chinese ceramic decoration and applied it to a modern form, the humble milk carton, blending traditional and contemporary making. Each piece was slab-built and decorated using underglaze and glaze.

Despite a few surprises in the kiln, the final results are something to be proud of. This was a challenging task for Year 7 students, and they did exceptionally well throughout the process.

Over the school holidays, some of our talented visual art students had their work on display at the South Perth Emerging Artist Awards, with 128 finalists selected from more than 300 entries.

Congratulations to our finalists Kate Cavaney, Imogen Birkinshaw Campbell, Giomarie Dioneda, Miya Do, and Bell Goodridge. It was wonderful to see students and their families at the exhibition, and a fantastic experience for our young artists to have their work professionally displayed.

Congratulations to Bell, whose work ‘B’ won the Secondary School Prize and prize money. What an outstanding way to finish her secondary education!

Pictured are our students with their artworks. We are very proud of you all.
