Fire safety is not only about responding to a fire after it starts-it is about preventing fires, recognizing hazards early, and ensuring people know what to do before, during and after an emergency.
Bhutan continues to face fire incidents that can result in loss of lives, property, livelihoods and valuable resources. While emergency response and rescue capabilities remain essential, building fire safety knowledge and preparedness at workplaces is equally important. Many workplace fire emergencies can be better managed -or even prevented-when workers, supervisors and organizations understand fire hazards, prevention measures, emergency procedures and their responsibilities.
Recognizing the need to strengthen workplace-level fire safety capacity, the Department of Labour, in collaboration with the Fire Safety and Rescue Division of the Royal Bhutan Police, is conducting a five-day workshop on the Development of Workplace Fire Safety Training Courses in Punakha from 7 to 11 September 2026.
The workshop brings together a diverse group of fire safety and emergency response experts and practitioners from the private and corporate sectors, Royal Bhutan Police, Safety Officers and relevant government agencies.
🎯 The main objective is to develop a structured national workplace fire safety training system with different levels of competency, including:
🔹 Level 1 – Basic Workplace Fire Safety Awareness
Building fundamental knowledge on fire hazards, prevention, emergency preparedness, evacuation and safe response.
🔹 Level 2 – Advanced Workplace Fire Safety
Strengthening the capacity of responsible personnel to identify and assess fire risks, implement preventive measures, manage workplace fire safety and respond effectively to emergencies.
This initiative represents an important first step toward formally integrating workplace fire safety into a structured training and competency development system in Bhutan. It aims to move beyond responding to fires after they occur and strengthen a culture of prevention, preparedness and responsible action at the workplace.
🔥 Fire safety is everyone's responsibility.
A safer workplace begins with knowledge, preparedness and action before an emergency happens.
Through collaboration between government agencies, emergency responders, safety professionals, employers and other stakeholders, this initiative seeks to contribute to a stronger and more resilient workplace fire safety culture in Bhutan.
Prevent. Prepare. Respond. Protect.
