The Town continues to monitor a significant rainfall event impacting the region through this weekend and into early next week.
The Alberta River Forecast Centre (RFC) provided its latest river conditions update this morning. No impacts or flood risk are forecasted at this time.
The local Black Diamond river monitoring station sustained damage on Friday evening, likely due to debris impacts within the river flow. The equipment is still not functional, and it is unknown when the repairs will be completed. We have been in contact with the RFC and they are unable to provide an eta. In the interim, river conditions continue to be monitored through on-the-ground observations.
River flows remain at the higher end of normal, and stream flows may increase as the rain continues.
Current forecasts continue to indicate significant rainfall continuing through the weekend and into early next week. Total precipitation amounts remain uncertain; however, localized accumulations approaching 50-100 mm remain possible in some areas, with an estimated 15mm already having failed in Diamond Valley.
DVEMA will continue to monitor conditions closely and provide updates should the situation change.

While today may feel like summer, our attention is already turning to a significant precipitation event expected to impact Southern Alberta this weekend.
Now is a good time to check sump pumps, clear storm drains around your property, and stay informed as the forecast develops.
Diamond Valley Emergency Management Agency (DVEMA) has received a notification from the GOA River Forecast Center advising that current meteorological models indicate a forecasted widespread precipitation accumulation of 50โ75 mm across portions of Southern Alberta over the next 4 days, with localized totals approaching 90 mm. Higher elevations may also receive 5โ15 cm of snowfall. Forecast confidence regarding total precipitation amounts and spatial distribution is expected to improve over the next 24 to 48 hours. The DVEMA is actively monitoring the situation in collaboration with the Alberta River Forecast Center and provincial partners.
At this stage, there is no indication of any immediate risk to our community. Weather models continue to evolve, and updated assessments are expected throughout the weekend, with clearer information anticipated by Saturday on how this weather event may impact our region.
We still recommend avoiding river activities at this time. Please keep children and pets close and away from the waterโs edge.
As always, we encourage residents to stay connected to official updates and practice general preparedness by reviewing household emergency plans and ensuring access to basic supplies. We remain committed to keeping you informed and ready, should conditions change.
