🔥 Celebrating 56 Years Since the Signing of Our Official Charter 🔥

This October marked 56 years since the official charter of IAFF Local 1075 was signed.

For generations, our members have stood together, strengthening our collective voice, protecting our rights, improving our working conditions and supporting one another both on and off the job.

Being part of the International Association of Fire Fighters means being part of a much larger family built on solidarity, service and the belief that every firefighter deserves a strong voice.

As we recognize this milestone, we especially honour our retirees and all the members who came before us. They laid the foundation, built this Local and created the strength and solidarity that today’s members continue to carry forward.

Our history reminds us of a simple truth: when we stand together, we are stronger.

Happy 56th anniversary to the official charter of IAFF Local 1075! ✊🚒🔥

St. John’s Firefighters Association, IAFF Local 1075, stands with our brothers and sisters of Halifax Professional Fire Fighters, IAFF Local 268, in their call for 20 additional firefighters through the 2027/28 budget process.

Strong staffing means having the firefighters needed to protect the public and each other when an emergency happens. We support Local 268’s advocacy for the resources their members need and the communities they serve deserve.

Stronger staffing. Safer communities. Solidarity from Local 1075. ✊

On September 19th members of the St. John’s Regional Fire Department, the Honour Guard, and Local 1075 executive attended the IAFF’s 40th Fallen Fire Fighter Memorial Observance in Colorado Springs to honour our Brother Craig Quigley and Brother Kevin Pittman.

The observance was an opportunity to join firefighters and families in remembering our fallen brothers and sisters and paying tribute to their lives, service, and sacrifice.

Thank you to those who attended and represented our department and Local during this meaningful occasion. We keep Brother Quigley and Brother Pittman's family, friends, and fellow firefighters in our thoughts as we honour their memory.

Always remembered. Never forgotten.

Following our September 11th Stair Climb, members of our Honour Guard and executive travelled to Ottawa for the Canadian Fallen Firefighters Foundation Memorial Weekend to honour our fallen members, Craig Quigley and Kevin Pittman.

Brother Quigley and Brother Pittman's names were added to the Canadian Fallen Firefighters Memorial wall, ensuring their service and sacrifice will be remembered for generations to come.

It was an honour to represent our membership and join firefighters from across the country in remembrance. Our thoughts remain with Craig and Kevin’s families, friends, and fellow firefighters.

We will remember them.

This morning the St. John’s Firefighters Association held its 3rd annual 9/11 Stair Climb.

This year marks the 25th anniversary of the events of 9/11. I couldn’t be more proud of how this event has grown in the past 3 years.
We not only honor those that paid the ultimate sacrifice on Sept. 11th, 2001, but all of the members of Local 1075 that we have lost.

Thank for to all of the members that climbed today. We were joined by members of the CBS fire department, Torbay Volunteer Fire Department, Royal Newfoundland Constabulary and Royal Newfoundland Constabulary Mounted Division.
Thank you to all of our supporters: the St. John’s Regional Fire Department and Honour Guard. Deputy Mayor, Ron Ellsworth, Mark Rice and constituents from Local 5451, and all of the media outlets that provided coverage. Thank you to all of our sponsors, we couldn’t have done it without your support.

A special mention to my family, Aimee, Jane and Cobain. Thank you for your continued love and inspiration. ❤️

This past week, members of our Fundraising and Special Events Committee had the opportunity to meet with several of our Regatta sponsors and thank them for helping make this year’s event such a success. 🙌

Community support plays a huge role in what we are able to accomplish, and we truly value the relationships we’ve built with the people and businesses who continue to support us.

This year’s sponsors included Dominion on Blackmarsh Road, Sobeys on Merrymeeting Road, DWI on Southside Road, as well as our very own Dave Parsons at Kent’s Pond Station.

As a small token of appreciation, the committee presented our sponsors with some Local 1075 swag. It may be a simple gesture, but showing our appreciation and maintaining these relationships goes a long way.

We’re also happy to say that these sponsors have already committed to supporting us again for next year’s Regatta and other special events throughout the year. 👏

A big thank you to all of our sponsors and community partners. Your support makes these events possible, and we truly appreciate everything you do for Local 1075 and our community. ❤️🚒

One Love 🖤

As firefighters and first responders, we are often there for people on the worst day of their lives. We witness difficult situations, carry heavy responsibilities, and sometimes bring it back to our families.

Strength is not about carrying everything alone.
Strength is supporting one another.
Strength is checking in on our Brothers and Sisters.
Strength is knowing when to reach out for help. 🤝

Be kind to each other. You never know what someone may be dealing with, either on the job or in their personal life.
“Are you okay?” is all it takes.

We stand together at every call. Let’s stand together after every call.

Be kind.
Be present.
Look after one another.
One Love. 🖤
Today I remember Michael Starkes.
Rest in greatness, Brother. 🙏
