Update, 22/10/26: the Altham household waste recycling centre is now back open and running as usual.

Original post, 21/10/26: 🚧 Please be aware that Altham household waste recycling centre is currently closed for the rest of today.

Following a fire incident nearby, the access road to the site has been closed by the emergency services. This means the recycling centre will remain closed for the rest of today.

Do you have five minutes this weekend?

Why not use them to help shape the future of your fire and rescue service?

Our Community Risk Management Plan looks at how we can help keep Lancashire safer over the next five years.

We want your views on the risks facing our communities and how we plan to prevent and respond to them.

There's one week left, so grab a cuppa and have your say: www.smartsurvey.co.uk/s/LFRScrmp2

What matters most to you when it comes to keeping your community safe?

Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service does much more than respond to fires. We help prevent emergencies, protect people and businesses, and prepare for a wide range of risks across Lancashire.

Our Community Risk Management Plan (CRMP) sets out how we’ll help keep Lancashire safer over the next five years.

Earlier this year, we asked what matters most to our communities, and your feedback helped shape our draft plan.

Now, we want to hear what you think about the risks we’ve identified and how we plan to prevent and respond to them.

Have your say: www.smartsurvey.co.uk/s/LFRScrmp2

The survey takes around 5 minutes to complete and closes at 5pm on Friday 9 October 2026.

Our Hyndburn King’s Trust department is on the lookout for potential community projects within the Hyndburn area that need some work and support. We want to work with local non-profit organisations that support the local community. The project can be anything from painting and decorating, gardening / landscaping renovations, building projects and restoration.

The project would need to start 28th September – 8th October so consideration for shelter for any outdoor projects would be necessary. It must also support 20 students and be enough work for the duration of the dates.

If you know of any local community groups or nonprofit organisations reach out to the staff to get set up.

Please read this post from Hyndburn Borough Council for a community update about Rhyddings Mill ⬇️

🚨 Rhyddings Mill – Important Community Update 🚨

The Council is working closely with Lancashire Police, Lancashire Fire & Rescue Service and other partner agencies in response to ongoing incidents of trespass, anti-social behaviour and fire-setting at Rhyddings Mill, Stonebridge Lane, Oswaldtwistle.

⚠️ The site is dangerous and poses a significant health and safety risk to anyone who enters.

🔥 Fires at the site cause air pollution, risk contamination of nearby watercourses, can affect local water supplies during emergency responses, and divert vital fire service resources away from Hyndburn and neighbouring communities.

📹 CCTV is being installed around the site and any activations will be sent directly to Lancashire Police for investigation and enforcement action.

✅ Legal action has been taken requiring the site owner to improve security and reduce the impact the site is having on the local community.

We are asking parents and guardians to speak with their children about:
• The dangers of entering the site
• The consequences of trespass, criminal damage and arson
• The impact these incidents have on local residents and emergency services

How can we help keep Lancashire safer over the next five years?

Our Community Risk Management Plan (CRMP) sets out our plans for the future. Earlier this year, we asked our communities, partners and employees what matters most to them, and we've used their feedback to develop our draft plan.

As we move into the second phase of our consultation, we'd like to hear your views on the community risks we've identified and how we intend to prevent and respond to them.

Take part in the survey here: www.smartsurvey.co.uk/s/LFRScrmp2
