A supporter in the comments of another post used the analogy of when John Terry turned up in full kit to collect the Champions League trophy despite being suspended and not playing in the final. Everyone laughed and teased and the phrase "doing a John Terry" entered the football lexicon and became shorthand for claiming credit for someone else's achievement.

That's exactly what Labour are doing in Nottinghamshire.

After years of neglect from both Labour and the Conservatives, Nottinghamshire's roads are finally seeing record levels of investment. Through the hard work and negotiation of the Reform-led administration, more funding has been secured and residents are already seeing the difference on roads across the county.

We are only a few weeks into the programme and resurfacing schemes, road repairs and pothole works are taking place right across Nottinghamshire. There is still a long way to go after decades of under investment, but the work is happening and residents can see it for themselves.

So it is quite remarkable to now see Labour trying to claim credit for road resurfacing they had no part in delivering. Securing funding, setting priorities and getting projects on the ground does not happen by accident.

Labour turning up now to celebrate the results is a bit like John Terry turning up in full kit for the trophy presentation.

Henry Nowak was murdered. The Police handcuffed and arrested him as he lay dying, whilst saying that he couldn't breathe due to his injuries. The Police Officer didn't believe him. The perpetrator meanwhile lied through his teeth, accusing the 18 year old of Racism.

This is 21st century Britain.

Man seriously ill in hospital after stabbing in beer garden 01/06/2026

And yet another stabbing in Nottinghamshire.

Over the past few weeks there has been a steady stream of knife-related incidents reported across Nottinghamshire.

These have included serious stabbings in Nottingham, Bulwell and Sutton-in-Ashfield, school knife attacks, attempted murder investigations, and a number of separate court cases involving bladed weapons.

Not every incident makes the headlines, and media reports are not the same as official crime statistics. However, it is difficult to ignore the frequency with which these stories are now appearing across local news outlets and police reports.

People are not imagining their concerns. When residents repeatedly see reports of stabbings, knife possession offences and serious assaults involving bladed weapons, it inevitably affects how safe they feel in their communities.

Reducing violent crime and tackling knife carrying must remain a priority.

This is becoming an epidemic in our society and something needs to be done.

This was just sent to me by a tradesman at a car boot sale today.

I’m sure none of these tools were nicked…

When will the police start taking this seriously?

I won’t stop my campaign until they do.
