On Friday 29th May, we marked Northampton's historic Oak Apple Day at All Saints' Church, Northampton
The annual thanksgiving event, held to commemorate King Charles II’s support of the town following the Great Fire of Northampton in 1675, included a church service, civic procession and wreathing ceremony featuring a historic re-enactment from The Mystery Tours and music performed by Sennet Brass Ensemble
The oak wreath was placed on the statue of Charles II in commemoration, which stands high on the All Saints’ portico. Oak Apple Day has been observed in Northampton for more than 350 years and remains a significant part of the town’s ceremonial calendar.

People in the East Midlands are being encouraged to stay alert and keep each other safe this summer, as Counter Terrorism Policing’s summer campaign returns for another year.
With the UK heading into a packed calendar of festivals and major sporting events, the campaign highlights the importance of staying vigilant and how public reporting can make a real difference.
In April, the national terrorism threat level was increased to severe, meaning an attack is highly likely. Whilst major events bring communities together, they can sadly also be attractive targets, so it’s vital to stay alert. The public has an important role to play by trusting their instincts and reporting anything that doesn’t feel right.
The East Midlands is preparing to host some incredible events this summer and you can expect to see safety messaging reminding you to report anything that doesn't feel right.
The public are encouraged to trust their instincts and the information they can provide to event staff, security or the police could help to keep everyone safe.
Detective Chief Inspector Marianne Winn is the Protect and Prepare Lead for Counter Terrorism Policing East Midlands. She said: “With a packed programme of events across the summer, we’re asking the public to stay alert and look out for one another. If something doesn’t feel right, trust your instincts and report it – the information you share with staff, security or the police could make a real
difference.
“The public are a vital part of our counter terrorism efforts, from speaking up about suspicious behaviour to reporting concerning material online. Reporting won’t ruin lives, but it could save them.”
If you see or hear something that doesn’t feel right, trust your instincts and report it to security, staff or the police. You can also report it in confidence by visiting www.gov.uk/act. You won’t be wasting our time. In an emergency, always call 999.
