On 4 May, Ambassador Yoshimoto participated in a development partner roundtable discussion at the high-level launch of the World Bank’s regional Health, Nutrition, and Population strategy, titled “Fit to Prosper: Investing in Health for Jobs and Development in Western and Central Africa.” The conference was co-hosted by the World Bank and the Government of Ghana, and brought together government officials, development partners, and experts from across the region to discuss pathways toward achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC) and strengthening health financing systems.

Ambassador Yoshimoto highlighted Japan’s support for health and nutrition, as well as the importance of country ownership and strong partnerships in advancing government-led health programmes. The discussion also highlighted the outcomes of the UHC High-Level Forum 2025, co-hosted last December by the Government of Japan, the World Bank, and the World Health Organization. The Joint Declaration adopted at the forum included the establishment of the UHC Knowledge Hub in Japan to facilitate the sharing of policy experiences and best practices among countries, as well as the promotion of country-level action plans (COMPACTs) for advancing UHC.

Japan remains committed to supporting resilient and sustainable health systems in Ghana, Western and Central Africa, and beyond.
