Last week, Luxembourg and WFP held their annual consultations at WFP Headquarters in Rome! 🇺🇳🤝🇱🇺

Together we took stock of our broad partnership, discussed WFP’s operations as well as the challenges it is facing, and assessed how Luxembourg can best contribute to WFP’s mission to end global hunger. 🇱🇺 prides itself on being a predictable, multi-year and flexible contributor to UN agencies, and its new partnership agreement with WFP for 2027–2030 is no exception.

Beyond supporting WFP’s emergency operations — including through flexible contributions & collaboration on logistics and telecommunications through emergency.lu — the partnership also leverages Luxembourg’s expertise in cybersecurity and data management to strengthen WFP’s capacities in these areas.

We look forward to continuing our close collaboration with our partners at WFP under the leadership of new Executive Director Luke J. Lindberg! 🤝

This week, Ambassador Schiltz had the opportunity to give a talk to students of LUISS University in the framework of the LUISS Networking lab, on networking and building bridges. The Q&A covered these topics but also diplomacy in general as well as the work of an embassy and an ambassador more specifically. Thank you to the students for their participation and the interesting questions and to Luigi Colavolpe for the invitation to the lab!

🇮🇹: Questa settimana, l’ambasciatore Schiltz ha avuto l’opportunità di tenere una conferenza agli studenti dell’Università LUISS nell’ambito del LUISS Networking Lab, sul tema del networking e dell’arte di building bridges. La sessione di domande e risposte ha affrontato questi argomenti, ma anche la diplomazia in generale e, più specificatamente, il lavoro di un’ambasciata e di un ambasciatore. Grazie mille agli studenti per la loro partecipazione e per le domande interessanti, nonché a Luigi Colavolpe per l’invito al lab!

🇮🇹Promozione della destinazione turistica “Lussemburgo” all’insegna del gusto a Milano!
 
Il 22 ottobre l’Ambasciata ha avuto il piacere di partecipare al „Destination Workshop Milan“, iniziativa di Luxembourg for Tourism, con i partner Luxembourg City Tourist Office e Luxair, presso FeelingFood Milano e con l’agenzia di marketing Aigo. Oltre alla presentazione del Granducato nelle sue diverse sfaccettature, la serata è stata caratterizzata da:
🍷 Degustazione di vini e specialità lussemburghesi: Crémant Poll-Fabaire „Let’s Make It Happen“, birra della Brasserie Nationale, Pinot Gris e Auxerrois.
🧠 Quiz sul Lussemburgo: tra curiosità e sfide, un modo divertente per scoprire il Granducato!
👩‍🍳 Team Food Challenge: con l’aiuto di chef professionali, le squadre di partecipanti al workshop si sono sfidate per preparare i migliori Gromperekichelcher (tipiche frittelle di patate)

🇬🇧 An evening in Milan promoting “Luxembourg” as a tourist destination, focused on taste!
 
On October 22nd, the Embassy had the pleasure to take part in the „Destination Workshop Milan“, an initiative of Luxembourg for Tourism, with the partners Luxembourg City Tourist Office and Luxair, at FeelingFood Milano and with the marketing agency Aigo. In addition to showcasing the Grand Duchy in all its diversity, the evening featured:
🍷 Tasting of Luxembourgish wines and specialties: Crémant Poll-Fabaire „Let’s Make It Happen“, b**r from the Brasserie Nationale, Pinot Gris and Auxerrois.

Today, 16 October, 🇱🇺 joined the celebrations at Food & Agriculture Organization of the United Nations.

As FAO marks its anniversary, the message is clear: harness science, technology, innovation and traditional knowledge to build sustainable agrifood systems that nourish people today and protect our planet for generations to come.

👩🏼‍🌾 2026 marks the International Year of the Woman Farmer!

Yesterday, Food & Agriculture Organization of the United Nations recognized 100 Women Heroes for their exceptional work in agrifood systems and rural development. Among them is the 🇱🇺 farmer Nora Feyder. 👏🏼

Through her commitment to sustainable agriculture, youth engagement, and women’s leadership, she contributes to a more resilient, innovative, and inclusive future for Luxembourg’s agrifood sector.

It was a pleasure to attend the first Luxembourg-Italy Innovation Forum, organised by the Camera di Commercio Italo-Lussemburghese in collaboration with the Embassy of Italy in Luxembourg and the support of the Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce.
The forum, which brought together experts and business representatives from our two countries and covering topics such as innovation, digitalization, cybersecurity and AI, through very interesting presentations and discussions, is another example of the strengthening of the ties between 🇮🇹 Italy and 🇱🇺 Luxembourg.

🇮🇹 : È stato un piacere partecipare al primo Forum sull’innovazione Lussemburgo-Italia, organizzato dalla Camera di Commercio Italo-Lussemburghese in collaborazione con l’Ambasciata d’Italia in Lussemburgo e con il sostegno della Camera di Commercio del Lussemburgo.
Il forum, che ha riunito esperti e rappresentanti del mondo imprenditoriale dei nostri due Paesi e ha affrontato temi quali l’innovazione, la digitalizzazione, la sicurezza informatica e l’intelligenza artificiale attraverso presentazioni e dibattiti di grande interesse, costituisce un ulteriore esempio del rafforzamento dei legami tra l’Italia e il Lussemburgo.

It was a pleasure welcoming Evie Ruymbeke, the new permanent representative of Belgium to the Rome-based UN agencies (FAO, WFP and IFAD), at our embassy. We are looking forward to working together with her, bilaterally as well as within Benelux and the EU, in our fight against hunger, poverty and the fulfilment of the Agenda 2030 and the Sustainable Development Goals.

Today we had the pleasure of visiting the Central Archives of the State, in Rome. It was particularly interesting to discover different documents relating to the bilateral relations between 🇮🇹 and 🇱🇺, such as the original of a treaty dating back to 1878, exchanges of letters between our respective heads of government, reports on the economic situation of Luxembourg in 1949 as well as preparatory documents for the state visit of H.R.H. Grand-Duc Jean in Italy in 1980.
 
🇮🇹: Oggi abbiamo avuto il piacere di visitare l’Archivio Centrale dello Stato, a Roma. È stato particolarmente interessante scoprire diversi documenti relativi alle relazioni bilaterali tra l’Italia e il Lussemburgo, quali l’originale di un trattato risalente al 1878, scambi di lettere tra i rispettivi capi di governo, relazioni sulla situazione economica del Lussemburgo nel 1949, nonché documenti preparatori per la visita di Stato di S.A.R. il Granduca Jean in Italia nel 1980.

On Friday, the embassy of Ireland in Rome, and current Presidency of the Council of the European Union, organised a EU heads of mission working lunch with the Minister of the Interior, Matteo Piantedosi. This interesting meeting, attended by Ambassador Schiltz, was a good opportunity to have an exchange on issues such as asylum, migration and security.
 
🇮🇹: Venerdì scorso, l’Ambasciata d’Irlanda a Roma, in qualità di attuale Presidenza del Consiglio dell’Unione europea, ha organizzato un pranzo di lavoro dei capi missione dell’UE con il Ministro dell’Interno, Matteo Piantedosi. Questo interessante incontro, al quale ha partecipato l’Ambasciatore Schiltz, ha rappresentato una buona occasione per uno scambio di opinioni su tematiche quali l’asilo, la migrazione e la sicurezza.
