🏥 Hospital heatwave update 🏥

🍦After the last heatwave, I believe the hospital management team are putting further measures in place to make things as comfortable as possible for patients and the hard working staff members.

📞I reached out to them to see if there was anything that might help at a community level.

❄️I can confirm that the hospital is able to take donations of new, plug in fans, if they are accompanied by a recent receipt.

☀️Our new Connetable has agreed that our Parish of St Saviour Parish Hall can be the designated drop-off point for any fans that are donated. Please take them directly there during opening hours (8.45-3.45)

Big thank you to Nelio and the team from the Parish of St Saviour who helped us relocate a football table kindly donated by some very generous parishioners. The pupils are going to love it!!

Maison st Louis Retaining Wall Update

Thank you to residents and road users for your continued patience while the road closure remains in place.

Works were delayed after an underground utility was identified in close proximity to the proposed foundations. This required further investigation and approvals to ensure the works could continue safely.

We are pleased to confirm that the necessary approvals have now been obtained. The contractor is scheduled to return to site on 24 June, with construction works recommencing on 25 June.

The Parish has been working closely with the property owners, their contractor, Peak Surveying Services and Jersey Electricity to identify a safe solution and progress the project as quickly as possible.

We appreciate the disruption the closure has caused and thank everyone affected for their continued understanding and cooperation as we work towards completing this important project safely and successfully.

Heatwave Safety Advice for Islanders

Temperatures are expected to be very high over the coming days. During this heatwave, please take extra care and look out for those who may be more vulnerable—especially elderly neighbours, friends, and relatives.

☀️To beat the heat, follow these simple steps:
- Stay indoors during the hottest part of the day and when UV levels are highest
- Take cool baths or showers
- Drink plenty of water; avoid alcohol and caffeine
- Keep your home cool: close curtains, open windows, and use fans
- Wear light, loose clothing and a wide-brimmed hat
- Apply sunscreen (minimum SPF 30) before going outside

🎓 Schools Information
- Decisions on school opening hours or adjustments to the school day are taken by individual headteachers, who will communicate directly with parents.
- Please check your email and the school’s social media channels for updates.

🔥 Fire Safety Reminders
- Use BBQs responsibly – don’t use them on balconies
- Do not light bonfires—there is an increased risk of land fires
- Dispose of glass carefully - it can start fires in dry conditions

🌊 Beach and Sea Safety
- Always check tide times before swimming
- Be aware of currents and swell
- Choose beaches with RNLI lifeguard patrols where possible
