🚁 DRONE SAFETY IN JERSEY – KNOW THE RULES BEFORE YOU FLY! 🇯🇪

Drones are becoming increasingly popular across Jersey, whether for recreation, photography or commercial use. However, operating a drone comes with important legal responsibilities.

⚠️ Did you know that Jersey has its own aviation legislation, which differs from the UK?

Under the Air Navigation (Jersey) Law 2014, drone operators must comply with a number of safety requirements.

✅ KEEP YOUR DRONE IN SIGHT
You must maintain direct visual contact with your drone at all times, ensuring you can safely avoid aircraft, people and property.

✅ MAXIMUM FLYING HEIGHT – 400FT (APPROX. 120M)
You must not fly above 400 feet without permission from Air Traffic Control.

✅ STAY CLEAR OF JERSEY AIRPORT
You must not fly within 2 nautical miles (approximately 3.7km) of Jersey Airport without prior permission from Jersey Air Traffic Control. Other airspace restrictions may also apply.

✅ KEEP A SAFE DISTANCE
For drones fitted with cameras or surveillance equipment, unless specifically authorised:

• Stay at least 50 metres away from people, vehicles, vessels and structures not under your control.

• Stay at least 150 metres away from congested areas, including towns and built-up areas.

• Do not fly over or within 150 metres of organised outdoor gatherings of more than 1,000 people.

✅ RESPECT PEOPLE’S PRIVACY
Be considerate when recording photographs or video. Drone operators must comply with applicable privacy and data protection requirements.

✅ COMMERCIAL DRONE OPERATIONS
If you’re operating a drone for commercial purposes, you must obtain the appropriate permission from the Jersey Director of Civil Aviation.

🚨 WHY DOES THIS MATTER?

Unsafe or unlawful drone activity can put aircraft, emergency services and members of the public at serious risk.

A drone flown near an airport or aircraft could cause significant disruption and potentially endanger lives.

⚖️ REMEMBER – YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE!

Drone operators are legally responsible for ensuring that their flights are safe and compliant with Jersey’s legislation. Breaching these requirements could result in prosecution.

📲 BEFORE YOU TAKE OFF – CHECK THE RULES!

‼️🌊
High tide is at 06:43am, 11.2 metre tide and with the winds is causing the nearside lane down at Havre Des Pas to become impassable for pedestrians walking along the sea side. Please cross over and proceed with care, drivers please adhere to the 20mph speed limit as not to give everyone a shower this morning.
Victoria Avenue has waves coming over the wall but not quite reaching the carriageway , again runners and pedestrians please proceed with care unless you want to get wet. More the issue down by the Look Out cafe on the avenue. Stay safe and please drive safe .
Have a happy Tuesday.

⚠️‼️💨💦

We have had another Orange weather forecast for this evening with winds forecast Southwest strong F6-7 with gusts to 50mph, briefly gale F8 veering West to Northwest.
Please be careful when driving and walking in areas where debris may come off buildings and be blown across open areas, pretty much the same as last night so if you don’t have to venture out stay indoors. Duty Centenier can be contacted on 07829722227 who will then direct any issues to the relevant departments / agencies.

Stay safe and wrap up well if you have to venture out.

⚠️‼️

Horizon Development, La Rue D’Letau, Waterfront.

Although the main part of the storm has now passed , winds are still expected to reach up to 50mph throughout the night. Due to this the Horizon development on La Rue De L’etau has experienced heavy winds causing the roof terrace material to break off and float down onto the road surface facing Cineworld. This material is made up of thin plastic with a hessian type backing, it is lightweight but could still be a issue if landing on the road or footpath. Please take care especially if you are walking along this road and if possible walk as close to the Horizon building as you can.
If you need to go out tonight please take care and be well dressed for the weather. Otherwise , otherwise please follow the states website regarding the forthcoming weather .

🚨 ROAD CLOSURE – SEALE STREET, ST HELIER 🚨

🌪️ STORM AUSTEN – RED WEATHER WARNING

Our officers are currently assisting Jersey Fire and Rescue Service following reports of loose roof tiles on a property in Seale Street.

⛔ Seale Street is currently CLOSED to ensure public safety whilst the incident is dealt with.

⚠️ IMPORTANT PUBLIC SAFETY REMINDER

With Storm Austen continuing to affect the Island and the RED weather warning remaining in force, we would remind all Islanders that outdoor activity should be restricted to essential journeys and activities only.

🚗 Motorists – Avoid unnecessary journeys and be alert to debris and fallen trees.

🚶 Pedestrians – Avoid walking outdoors unless absolutely essential, particularly near buildings where loose tiles and other debris may fall.

🚴 Cyclists – Strong winds and flying debris present significant dangers. Avoid cycling during these conditions.

🐎 Horse Riders – Please refrain from riding during the storm. Sudden gusts and flying debris can frighten horses and create dangerous situations.

🐕 Dog Walkers – Please avoid unnecessary walks until conditions improve. Even short walks could expose you and your pets to dangerous flying debris.

👮 Our officers and emergency service colleagues are working to keep Islanders safe. Please help us by following official safety advice and avoiding unnecessary risks.

We will provide further updates regarding Seale Street as information becomes available.

Stay indoors. Stay safe. Avoid unnecessary travel.
