The United States welcomes the news of Kem Sokha’s release. The United States has consistently called for the release of Kem Sokha and maintained that his conviction related to claims of U.S. involvement in activities against Cambodia’s government was unfounded. His release is a positive development, and we continue to encourage the Cambodian government to ensure its citizens can freely exercise their rights of peaceful assembly and expression.

Blake Dawgert, Chief of the Economic and Commercial Unit at U.S. Embassy Phnom Penh, joined the Director of the National Center for Tuberculosis and Leprosy Control to hand over 4,000 Tuberculosis (TB) test kits to Cambodia’s National Tuberculosis Program. These cutting-edge test kits, provided by the United States through the Trump Administration’s America First Global Health Strategy, will accelerate the speed and accuracy of TB case identification, particularly in remote communities. As a result of decades of U.S. global health assistance to Cambodia, TB incidence rates in Cambodia have dropped by almost 50 percent over the past 20 years. By investing in cutting-edge technologies and global health solutions, the United States is safeguarding Cambodians and Americans from the spread of TB and preventing the spread of infectious diseases before they spread internationally or reach American shores. Chargé d’Affaires Benjamin Chiang joined the Ambassador’s Youth Council for a session on the vital role of public diplomacy at U.S. Embassy Phnom Penh. If your U.S. passport is lost or stolen while you’re overseas, our consular teams around the world can help. Here’s what to do:

1️⃣Stay calm. Our teams can help get you an emergency passport in order to return to the United States.

2️⃣Contact the nearest U.S. Embassy or Consulate for help. Visit the U.S. Embassy website for the country you’re in to find their emergency contact info and/or their process for replacing a lost or stolen passport. You can also find this contact info at travel.state.gov/destination.

3️⃣Apply for your emergency passport in person. Follow the instructions provided by the Embassy or Consulate regarding walk-in hours or scheduling an appointment as well as what to bring.

4️⃣Apply for a full validity passport when you’re back in the United States. If you apply for the full-validity replacement passport within one year of the emergency passport being issued, it will be exchanged without any additional fees. Learn more at travel.state.gov/ReplaceLimitedPassport

A B1/B2 visitor visa can be used to conduct business meetings and negotiate contracts, but if you need to do work, then you need a different visa. Unauthorized employment can lead to deportation and/or a permanent ban from entering the country in the future. Report visa misuse to [email protected].

The U.S. Department of State's Office of Export Controls and Border Security (EXBS) at the U.S. Embassy in Phnom Penh recently facilitated a multi-country study visit for eight senior Cambodian officials under the Pathway to Weapons of Mass Destruction Strategic Trade Management Initiative (PWMD-STMI).

From May 7-15, 2026, the delegation—led by National Authority for Chemical Weapons (NACW) Deputy Secretary General Major General Vitiea Noeun and EXBS Regional Advisor Mr. Lewis Pyrtle—visited Singapore, Japan, and the Republic of Korea.

The study visit provided Cambodian officials with direct, practical exposure to mature strategic trade management (STM) systems across Southeast and East Asia. Participants gained valuable insights into how regional partners have institutionalized trade control frameworks that effectively balance economic facilitation with national and regional security imperatives.

The visit supports U.S. security interests by helping Cambodia strengthen its ability to prevent the proliferation of sensitive and dual use technologies. It enhances practical cooperation with ASEAN partners, reflects U.S. commitment to high international security standards, and contributes to a more stable and trustworthy regional trading environment that benefits U.S. businesses.

Each year on the last Monday of May, Americans honor the men and women who have lost their lives in military service to the United States. Most Americans have the day off from work. Many attend parades, visit war memorials or say a prayer at a relative’s grave.

One of the most significant sites for such commemoration is Arlington National Cemetery, the final resting place for U.S. military personnel of every major American conflict since the Revolutionary War. The cemetery sits across the Potomac River from Washington in Arlington, Virginia.
