Strengthening Reporting Skills for Quality Statistical Outputs

The Bureau recently concluded a two-day training workshop on the fundamentals of professional report writing for technical and reporting departments for members of staff, facilitated by a seasoned Subject Matter Expert, Tochukwu Innocent. The capacity development drive is supported by NFTI under the Organisational Development grant from the Gates Foundation.

The workshop was designed to enhance participants' knowledge and practical skills in preparing high-quality reports that support evidence-based decision-making and effective communication of statistical findings.

Some of the key areas covered during the training included:
* Technical Report
* Quality Assurance Report
* After Action Review (AAR) Report
* Survey Report
* Policy Brief Development
* Executive Summary Report Preparation

Participants were exposed to report structuring techniques, best practices, quality standards, and practical approaches to presenting data and findings in a clear, concise, and impactful manner. They were also exposed to hands-on training on report writing, group discussions, presentations and brain teasers to challenge the participants reasoning, creativity and problem solving skills in terms of report writing.

The training workshop underscores the Bureau's commitment to continuous capacity building and the production of credible, reliable, robust and user-friendly statistical information especially the KDGHS 2025 report which is underway and other reports going forward for policymakers, development partners, and the general public.

The Kaduna State Bureau of Statistics with support from NATVIEW Foundation for Technology Innovation successfully conducted sensitization sessions for the Kaduna State Primary Health Care Board on 19th May 2026, as well as the Kaduna State Ministry of Health and Kaduna State Contributory Health Management Agency on 20th May 2026, focusing on the adoption and use of the Health Facility Analytics (HEFA) platform for evidence-based planning and performance monitor ing in Kaduna State. The sensitization sessions focused on practical navigation of the HEFA platform, data interpretation, analytics,triangulation of health data, and application of insights for strategic health sector planning. Participants engaged in hands-on exercises and case studies aimed at identifying gaps in infrastructure, workforce distribution, service availability, and resource allocation across Local Government Areas. The exercise further demonstrated Kaduna State's commitment to str strengthening data-driven governance and institutionalizing evidence-based decision-making within the health sector.The sessions also reinforced the strategic role of KDBS in coordinating, sustaining, and promoting the use of HEFA analytic s across Ministries, Departments, and Agencies in the State. Kaduna State is taking a bold step toward transforming grassroots sports and youth development.

The Kaduna State Bureau of Statistics (KDBS), in collaboration with the Ministry of Sports Development and key stakeholders, has launched a strategic initiative to map sport facilities and assets across all 23 LGAs.
The project will help identify underutilized facilities, discover hidden community assets, and promote equitable access to sports infrastructure across urban and rural areas.
This data-driven partnership is set to strengthen talent discovery, youth empowerment, and sustainable sports development in Kaduna State.

Leading the Way in Data Excellence: KDBS Adopts New Administrative SOPs!
We are thrilled to announce the successful conclusion of the 2-day validation and adoption session for our Administrative Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), led by our Statistician-General/CEO, Dr. Bukar Baba Alhaji.
Standardization is the backbone of reliable data. On Day 2, the Team reviewed and officially adopted all the DOPs validated in the Day 1&2 of the workshop. Day 2 was marked with activities of validating and adoption of the;
✅ SOP 5: Project Reporting Standards – Enhancing our knowledge management by capturing all activity procedures, timeline, challenge, gap, and adjustment during project lifecycles.

Kaduna State Bureau of Statistics Formalizes Operational Excellence through Validation of Administrative SOPs

KADUNA, NIGERIA – The Kaduna State Bureau of Statistics (KDBS) has reached a critical institutional milestone following the formal validation and approval of its Administrative Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). This strategic initiative, spearheaded by the Statistician-General and CEO, Dr. Bukar Baba Alhaji, is designed to institutionalize standardized operational frameworks, ensuring the Bureau remains a competitive and reliable entity within the global data ecosystem.
The newly validated SOPs establish rigorous guidelines for administrative efficiency, crisis communication management, and project reporting. By standardizing these internal functions, KDBS aims to enhance the integrity of its data production processes and improve service delivery to state and non-state actors.
During the validation workshop, Dr. Bukar Baba Alhaji extended his appreciation to Gates Foundation, NFTI and Value Bridge Consulting for the support. He noted that their technical partnership and global insights have been instrumental in aligning the Bureau’s internal protocols with international best practices.
The Day 1 validation session focused on four foundational pillars:
Administrative Standard Operating Procedures: Streamlining internal workflows and resource management.
Crisis Communication Management: Establishing protocols for maintaining institutional transparency and public trust.
Stakeholder & Partner Coordination: Enhancing collaborative frameworks with local and international development partners.
Data Collection & Field Operations: Standardizing the methodology for rigorous and accurate data gathering.
As the workshop transitions into its second day, KDBS reaffirms its commitment to continuous improvement and its goal of becoming a premier statistical authority in Africa and the global data space.

The Statistician General and CEO of the Kaduna State Bureau of Statistics (KDBS) Dr. Bukar Baba Alhaji recently received a delegation from the Kaduna State Ministry of Sports Development, led by the Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Debora I.B. Tanko, on a courtesy visit to the Bureau.

The discussions focused on the critical initiative of generating baseline data through comprehensive sports facilities mapping across the State. This project aims to capture detailed data on sports infrastructure within the public and private sectors, including community and school-based facilities. The goal is to establish a reliable database that details the distribution, condition, accessibility, and utilization of these assets.

During the meeting, both parties underscored the importance of reliable data as the essential foundation for effective policy formulation, strategic planning, and performance monitoring within the sports sector.

KDBS and Pathfinder Impact Catalyst Partner to Enhance Community Health Through Data-Driven Mapping Study
KADUNA, NIGERIA – The Kaduna State Bureau of Statistics (KDBS) has entered into strategic discussions with Pathfinder Impact Catalyst to launch a comprehensive mapping and landscape analysis study. The initiative, titled Community Access to RMNCAH+N Innovations Service, aims to bridge critical gaps in community-based healthcare delivery across Kaduna State.
The engagement, held at the KDBS headquarters, brought together management teams from both organizations to finalize the framework for a study focusing on Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child, Adolescent Health, and Nutrition (RMNCAH+N).
Strengthening the Healthcare Ecosystem
The upcoming study is designed to provide a granular view of the healthcare landscape within three targeted Local Government Areas (LGAs). Key objectives include:
Community Health Worker Mapping: Identifying and tracking community health workers and their functional linkages to formal health facilities.
Service Utilization Assessment: Evaluating the awareness, accessibility, and actual usage of health services by residents.
System Strengthening: Using generated insights to identify delivery gaps and opportunities for more resilient community-level interventions.
Commitment to Data Integrity
Representing the Statistician General of Kaduna State, Dr. Bukar Baba Alhaji, the KDBS management team emphasized that the project's success hinges on technical excellence. The Bureau re-affirmed its commitment to:
Robust Methodologies: Implementing rigorous sampling frameworks and data collection techniques.
Validation Processes: Ensuring all gathered data undergoes strict validation to produce credible, actionable findings for policymakers.
