The Department of Tourism (DOT) received local officials of Marikina City on May 20 as they presented plans to develop the cityโ€™s tourism products, including the proposed rehabilitation framework for its famous Kapitan Moy Heritage House.

Built in 1780, the Kapitan Moy Heritage House is one of Marikinaโ€™s most significant historical sites, symbolizing the early beginnings of the cityโ€™s trademark shoemaking industry. To this day, the structure stands as a center for cultural preservation, local arts, events, and tourism activities.

The proposed rehabilitation and adaptive reuse initiative aims to reinforce the siteโ€™s position as a premier heritage attraction and complement Marikinaโ€™s overall appeal as an emerging urban cultural and lifestyle destination.

The DOT, through its National Capital Region office, has consistently provided support for Marikina, specifically in promoting the cityโ€™s tourism products and assisting local businesses, especially those in the shoemaking and arts industries.
