In commemoration of the 30th death anniversary of National Artist Ishmael Bernal.

Ishmael Bernal is respected as a filmmaker whose creations offer sharp social critiques and bold reflections on the struggles encountered by Filipinos. His artistic pursuits go beyond simple visual allure. By elevating imagery and employing inventive techniques, he adeptly conveys his messages: championing the fight against censorship, freeing artists, pursuing justice for the underprivileged, and both enlightening and entertaining his audience.

The Metropolitan Theater, together with the National Commission for Culture and the Arts, Panasonic Projection and Display Asia Pacific Philippines held the production of the ๐™ˆ๐™–๐™ฃ๐™ž๐™ก๐™– ๐˜พ๐™–๐™ง๐™ฃ๐™ž๐™ซ๐™–๐™ก ๐™Œ๐™ช๐™š๐™š๐™ฃ๐™จ: ๐˜พ๐™š๐™ก๐™š๐™—๐™ง๐™–๐™ฉ๐™ž๐™ค๐™ฃ ๐™ค๐™› ๐™๐™ž๐™ก๐™ž๐™ฅ๐™ž๐™ฃ๐™ค ๐™’๐™ค๐™ข๐™–๐™ฃ๐™๐™ค๐™ค๐™™ last May 30, 2026 at the historic theater in Manila.

As the cherry on top of the month long celebration of National Heritage Month, the production showcased Filipino women throughoutโ€”quite literallyโ€”space and time. The iconic caryatids of the Metropolitan Theater as well as notable figures in Philippine history such as Jose Rizal and Gabriela Silang came to life with a delightful mix of song and dance numbers.

The production ended with a fashion show featuring the works of Rommel Padillo Serrano, Norman Peรฑaflorida, and Santi Obcena

Joining the night of celebrating womanhood was NCCA Deputy Executive Director Bernal Joseph Corpuz who gave a few words before the production started.

Written by Nicolas Pichay, under the direction of Rem Zamora, and from the original music of Vincent A. de Jesus, the Manila Carnival Queens: Celebration of Filipino Womanhood honors Manilaโ€™s Carnival Queens in the national stage through learning, experiencing, and most of all, remembering.
