GUN SAFETY STARTS WITH RESPONSIBLE OWNERSHIP AS PNP LAUNCHES NATIONWIDE ADVOCACY

Under the leadership of Police General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr., Chief, Philippine National Police (PNP), the PNP Civil Security Group (CSG) has launched a Gun Safety Advocacy Campaign to promote responsible fi***rm ownership, safe handling, proper storage, and the prevention of unauthorized access to fi***rms.

The campaign was launched amid recent fi***rm-related incidents involving minors in school settings, which brought renewed attention to the importance of preventing unauthorized access to fi***rms and ensuring that legally owned guns are properly secured. Rather than focusing only on enforcement after an incident occurs, the CSG initiative seeks to strengthen prevention by encouraging responsible fi***rm owners to make safety a continuing practice.

Carrying the official tagline “OWN A GUN RESPONSIBLY. GUN SAFETY IS A CONTINUING DUTY,” the campaign emphasizes that fi***rm safety goes beyond legal ownership. It encourages fi***rm owners to consistently practice safe handling, secure storage, and accountability, particularly in ensuring that fi***rms do not become accessible to unauthorized persons.

The campaign also carries the hashtags , , and , encouraging fi***rm owners, families, shooting clubs, partner organizations, and communities to help amplify practical fi***rm safety reminders through their respective activities and platforms.

The initiative forms part of the PNP’s continuing preventive efforts to promote the responsible use and safekeeping of fi***rms. Through sustained public education and cooperation with stakeholders, the campaign seeks to reinforce the message that a properly secured fi***rm helps protect not only its owner, but also the family and the wider community.

“Kapag may baril, may kaakibat na responsibilidad. Hindi lang ito tungkol sa pagmamay-ari; kasama rito ang araw-araw na pag-iingat. Kung ligtas ang pagkakahawak at pagkakatago ng baril, mas napoprotektahan natin ang ating pamilya at komunidad,” PGen Nartatez said.

He emphasized that fi***rm safety should become part of everyday practice, particularly in ensuring that fi***rms remain properly secured and inaccessible to unauthorized persons.

“Hindi natin kailangang hintayin na may mangyaring insidente bago natin seryosohin ang gun safety. Nasa simpleng pag-iingat ang malaking bahagi ng prevention—sa tamang paghawak, tamang safe keeping, at pagtiyak na hindi ito maaabot ng taong hindi dapat magkaroon nito. Sa ganitong paraan, lahat tayo may kontribusyon sa kaligtasan ng ating pamilya at komunidad,” PGen Nartatez said.

The CSG initiative is aligned with the PNP’s Focused Agenda, particularly its Enhanced Managing Police Operations (EMPO), by complementing law enforcement efforts with prevention, public awareness, and stronger community participation in promoting fi***rm safety.

The campaign also supports the administration of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. in advancing public safety through initiatives that encourage responsible practices and active community participation.

The PNP encourages fi***rm owners, stakeholders, and the public to help amplify the campaign’s safety messages through appropriate community activities, information materials, and social media platforms. Through collective responsibility and sustained awareness, the PNP seeks to advance “Bagong PNP para sa Bagong Pilipinas: Serbisyong Mabilis, Tapat, at Nararamdaman,” while fostering a culture where gun safety remains a continuing duty.

PNP BRINGS CYBER SAFETY DRIVE TO SCHOOLS, BARANGAYS, COMMUNITIES NATIONWIDE

Under the leadership of Police General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr., Chief, Philippine National Police (PNP), police cybercrime units across the country intensified their public awareness efforts this September, bringing practical guidance on online safety, scams, cyberbullying, cybersecurity, and other digital risks to schools, barangays, and communities in different parts of the country.

From September 11 to 18, 2026, PNP cybercrime personnel conducted a series of awareness activities involving students, teachers, educators, barangay officials, residents, university communities, and other stakeholders in Quezon, Ilocos Norte, Catanduanes, Aklan, Negros Island Region, Zamboanga City, Sarangani, and parts of Northern Mindanao.

The activities focused on concerns that ordinary users may encounter online, including suspicious links and messages, fraudulent schemes, cyberbullying, misuse of personal information, unsafe online interactions, and irresponsible sharing of digital content. Participants were also given guidance on recognizing potential risks and properly reporting harmful or suspicious online activity.

The PNP also used the engagements to strengthen awareness among young people and educators on responsible digital behavior, including concerns involving online radicalization and other harmful content that may reach school communities through digital platforms.

“People do not have to be technology experts to protect themselves online. Sometimes, it starts with simple things—checking before you click, thinking before you share, and asking for help when something does not feel right. Gusto natin na mas maging maalam at mas maingat ang ating mga kababayan sa paggamit ng technology,” PGen Nartatez said.

The Chief PNP emphasized that preventing cyber-related incidents requires more than police action, noting the importance of parents, teachers, local officials, schools, and communities in helping young people and other vulnerable users develop safer digital habits.

The continuing campaign forms part of the PNP Focused Agenda under Enhanced Managing Police Operations (EMPO), particularly its emphasis on preventive policing and closer engagement with communities as public safety concerns continue to evolve. It also supports the administration of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. in promoting safer communities through coordinated government and public participation.

The PNP reminds the public to verify links, accounts, messages, and online offers before responding or sending money, and to avoid sharing passwords, financial details, or other sensitive personal information. Anyone who encounters online threats, scams, harassment, or other suspicious activity is encouraged to preserve available evidence and report the matter through proper authorities.

As digital platforms become an increasingly common part of everyday life, the PNP continues to strengthen prevention and public awareness efforts so that cyber safety becomes part of community safety, consistent with its vision of “Bagong PNP para sa Bagong Pilipinas: Serbisyong Mabilis, Tapat at Nararamdaman.”

PNP REMINDS PERSONNEL TO OBSERVE ETHICAL STANDARDS IN PUBLIC, ONLINE EXPRESSION

Under the leadership of Police General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr., Chief, Philippine National Police (PNP), the organization is reminding all personnel to exercise responsibility and sound judgment when expressing personal views, particularly on social media and other public platforms.

The reminder follows renewed attention to a social media post attributed to a PNP personnel expressing views on a political matter. While personnel may hold personal views, their membership in the police service carries professional responsibilities that also apply to public and online engagements.

PNP Memorandum Circular No. 2024-077, or the Guidelines in Posting of Contents on Social Media, provides standards for personnel’s social media activities, consistent with the PNP Ethical Doctrine, Republic Act No. 6713, and other applicable policies. These standards reinforce the importance of responsible, professional, and non-partisan conduct among PNP personnel.

Chief PNP PGen. Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr. reminded personnel that their responsibilities extend beyond official duties.

“May sarili tayong pananaw, and we recognize that. But when you are part of the PNP, you also carry the name of the organization with you. Kaya bago tayo mag-post o magsalita publicly, isipin muna natin kung naaayon ito sa ating ethical standards, sa ating tungkulin, at sa tiwala ng taong pinaglilingkuran natin,” PGen. Nartatez said.

He emphasized that the reminder is not intended to prevent personnel from being informed or participating in legitimate discussions, but to ensure that such engagement remains consistent with the professional standards of the police service.

“Hindi naman ibig sabihin na wala nang sariling boses ang ating mga personnel. Ang punto natin, gamitin natin ang judgment na hinihingi ng ating propesyon. Freedom comes with responsibility, especially when you belong to an organization that is expected to remain professional, disciplined, and fair,” the Chief PNP said.

The PNP is also verifying the social media account and the circumstances surrounding the post. If confirmed to belong to a PNP personnel, the matter will be evaluated under applicable laws, rules, regulations, and PNP policies. Should a violation be established, the concerned personnel will be dealt with accordingly, consistent with due process and existing procedures.

The PNP likewise reminded personnel to observe non-partisanship and avoid using their position, authority, uniform, or official association in ways that may affect public confidence in the impartiality of the police service. Any administrative action, when warranted, will be based on verified facts and established violations.

As the country pursues its peace, order, and public safety objectives under President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., the PNP reminds all personnel that their conduct, whether in the workplace or in public and online spaces, contributes to the credibility of the police service.

By observing established standards, exercising sound judgment, and remaining accountable, PNP personnel help uphold public confidence and advance the Bagong PNP para sa Bagong Pilipinas: Serbisyong Mabilis, Tapat, at Nararamdaman.

KEEPING YOUTH OUT OF CRIME: PNP STRENGTHENS EARLY INTERVENTION

Under the leadership of Police General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr., Chief, Philippine National Police (PNP), police units across the country are strengthening early intervention measures to prevent young people from being drawn into emerging criminal groups and activities.

The move comes amid concerns raised by Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Jonvic Remulla over reports involving the group identified as True Brown Style (TBS), which allegedly recruits and grooms teenagers for criminal activities. President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has directed authorities to address emerging community-based criminal groups and prevent them from gaining a wider foothold.

Rather than waiting for criminal activities to escalate, the PNP is directing its regional offices and concerned units to strengthen information gathering, validate reports, and coordinate with local authorities and community partners so that appropriate intervention can be undertaken at the earliest opportunity.

The approach is consistent with the PNP Focused Agenda, particularly Enhanced Managing Police Operations (EMPO), which emphasizes responsive and coordinated police action based on reliable information and appropriate assessment of emerging concerns.

“Kapag may nakikitang senyales ng problema, mas mabuting maagapan kaysa hintayin nating lumala. We want our police units to be present, informed, and coordinated enough to act at the right time—especially when young people may be at risk of being influenced or exploited,” PGen Nartatez said.

The Chief PNP stressed that police intervention must remain anchored on facts and the law. Reports will be validated and evidence properly established before appropriate police action is taken, with due regard for the rights of all persons concerned.

At the community level, police units are also being encouraged to strengthen coordination with schools, local government units, barangay officials, parents and other stakeholders who can help identify early signs of recruitment, exploitation or involvement in criminal activities.

“Hindi lang ito trabaho ng pulis. If a young person is being drawn into criminal activity, the earlier the family, school, community and police can recognize it, the more opportunities we have to intervene and put that young person back on the right path,” PGen Nartatez added.

The PNP likewise reminds the public to report credible information concerning the recruitment of minors or criminal activities to the nearest police station or through the Unified 911 emergency hotline. Information provided by the community can help police assess concerns, coordinate with the appropriate units, and respond before a situation develops into a more serious threat.

Through early intervention, coordinated police work and stronger community partnership, the PNP continues to strengthen its role not only in responding to crime but also in preventing young people from becoming vulnerable to criminal exploitation, advancing the vision of a Bagong PNP para sa Bagong Pilipinas: Serbisyong Mabilis, Tapat at Nararamdaman.

UNIFIED 911 CALL LEADS POLICE TO TWO SUSPECTS IN LEYTE STABBING

The Philippine National Police, under the command of PNP Chief PGEN Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr., demonstrated the value of accessible emergency reporting after a 911 call helped police respond to a stabbing incident in Burauen, Leyte, resulting in the arrest of two suspects on September 25, 2026. The call was coursed through the Unified 911 system, a vital public safety service of the Department of the Interior and Local Government under Secretary Juanito Victor C. Remulla.

Personnel of the Burauen Municipal Police Station of Police Regional Office 8 immediately proceeded to a housing community in Barangay Arado, Burauen, Leyte, after receiving the emergency call, where they arrested two suspects identified by their aliases as “Leo,” 48, and “Nic,” 38, both laborers and residents of Burauen, Leyte.

Initial investigation showed that the incident stemmed from a heated argument after the victim cautioned one of the suspects regarding their dogs. The disagreement escalated into a fistfight, during which alias “Leo” allegedly intervened and attacked the victim with a long-bladed weapon locally known as a “sundang.”

The victim was brought by relatives to a district hospital in Burauen for medical intervention, while the suspects and the recovered bladed weapon were taken to the Burauen Municipal Police Station for documentation and appropriate legal proceedings.

“An immediate police response is crucial when an incident threatens the safety of our communities. We will remain ready to act on emergency calls and ensure that every intervention is carried out within the bounds of the law,” PGEN Nartatez said.

“Sa ganitong sitwasyon, mahalaga ang agarang paghingi ng tulong upang mapigilan ang paglala ng insidente. Hinihikayat natin ang publiko na gamitin ang Unified 911 at agad ipaalam sa pulisya ang anumang banta sa kaligtasan,” he added.

The incident reflects the PNP Focused Agenda, particularly Enhanced Managing Police Operations and Active Community Support, by demonstrating the importance of immediate police action and timely information from the public in addressing incidents that threaten community safety.

The prompt response enabled police personnel to reach the area, apprehend the two suspects, recover the alleged weapon, and initiate the appropriate documentation and legal proceedings.

As the PNP strengthens its response to incidents affecting public safety under the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., it assures the public of “Bagong PNP para sa Bagong Pilipinas: Serbisyong Mabilis, Tapat, at Nararamdaman.”

The recovered fi***rms, am******on, and gr***de have likewise been secured for documentation, safekeeping, and proper disposition.

The PNP Focused Agenda provides a framework for organizational transformation, with Enhanced Managing Police Operations reflected in the sustained efforts to address local armed conflict and support peace and public safety in Eastern Visayas.
