Marking a new chapter in bilateral relations, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and Vietnamese President and General Secretary To Lam witnessed the signing of four key agreements during the Joint Press Conference held as part of President To Lam’s two-day State Visit to the Philippines. The agreements cover defense cooperation between the two countries’ defense ministries, a Tourism Cooperation Program for 2026 to 2029, a partnership on information technology and digital transformation between DICT and Vietnam’s Ministry of Science and Technology, and an academic linkage between the University of the Philippines and the Academy of Public Administration and Governance under Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics.

In his remarks, President Marcos underscored that the Enhanced Strategic Partnership goes beyond securing bilateral interests, saying it firmly positions both nations as anchors of peace, innovation, dynamism, and sustainable growth across ASEAN and the wider Indo-Pacific region.

As part of his official engagements during the State Visit to Japan, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. met with Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) President Dr. Tanaka Akihiko in Tokyo to advance high-impact development cooperation and reinforce the longstanding partnership between the Philippines and Japan.

The meeting highlighted JICA’s vital role in supporting the Philippines’ infrastructure modernization, healthcare, climate resilience, disaster risk management, and peace and development initiatives in Mindanao, alongside assistance for the Philippine Coast Guard and major connectivity projects.

President Marcos and Dr. Tanaka also discussed ongoing and pipeline cooperation programs, including support for universal healthcare and climate action initiatives, as both sides reaffirmed their commitment to sustainable development, economic resilience, and shared prosperity.

Marcos Jr. underscored the deep and longstanding ties between the two nations, highlighting Japan’s vital role as one of the Philippines’ most valued partners in development, security, infrastructure, agriculture, connectivity, and resilience.

The President also recognized the meaningful contributions of Filipinos in Japan in strengthening the bonds between both peoples and societies.
