DEPDev is the primary policy, planning, coordinating, and monitoring arm of the Executive Branch of government on the national economy.

Under R.A. 12145, or the Economy, Planning, and Development Act, the NEDA Board shall be reconstituted as the Economy and Development Council or ED Council. Headed by the President of the Philippines, the ED Council is the executive collegial body responsible for directing and providing overall policy direction on economic matters to achieve inclusive and sustainable economic growth and development. Its members include various Cabinet Secretaries, the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) Chief Minister, and Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas Governor.

𝐖𝐀𝐓𝐂𝐇: The Philippines, as co-chair of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Southeast Asia Regional Programme, hosted the 2026 OECD Southeast Asia Small and Medium Enterprises Regional Forum in Pasay City on September 23.

𝐈𝐍 𝐏𝐇𝐎𝐓𝐎𝐒: DEPDev Secretary Arsenio M. Balisacan highlighted the importance of strengthening economic resilience through trade, investment, and international cooperation amid global economic uncertainty in his statement at the 2026 Autumn Economic Forum (AEF) on October 28.

Organized by the People’s Committee of Ho Chi Minh City, the AEF is an annual high-level dialogue platform that brings together government, business, and development leaders to discuss economic transformation, innovation, and international cooperation.

𝐋𝐎𝐎𝐊: DEPDev Secretary Arsenio M. Balisacan emphasized how regional partnerships enable economies to address shared challenges and pursue opportunities that may be difficult to achieve independently.

Speaking at the 2026 Autumn Economic Forum (AEF) on October 28, Balisacan highlighted the Philippines’ efforts, as ASEAN Chair in 2026, to advance regional energy security and connectivity through the ASEAN Framework Agreement on Petroleum Security and the ASEAN Power Grid.

MANILA — Department of Economy, Planning, and Development (DEPDev) Undersecretary for Policy and Planning Rosemarie G. Edillon chaired the first meeting of the Trabaho Para sa Bayan Inter-Agency Council (TPB-IAC) Government Technical Working Group (TWG) on Monday, October 26, at the DEPDev Office in Mandaluyong City.

The TWG was established to support the implementation of the TPB Plan 2025–2034, which aims to address the country’s employment challenges and foster labor market development.

𝐇𝐀𝐏𝐏𝐄𝐍𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐍𝐎𝐖: Cities are the primary engines of economic growth, innovation, and job creation. As the Philippines pursues more balanced and inclusive regional development, while striving to keep the growth momentum, urban local government units (LGUs) will play an increasingly important role as anchors of economic corridors, boosting regional competitiveness and expanding access to economic opportunities.

To inform policy dialogue and investment planning, the World Bank has produced a diagnostic report: From Cities to Corridors: Unlocking the Philippines’ Urban Growth Potential. The report (i) examines the evolving role of urban LGUs in driving economic growth and regional development; (ii) proposes policy reforms and program of support to unlock their economic potential to enhance regional competitiveness.

The National Launch will officially disseminate the diagnostic report’s key findings and recommendations and facilitate dialogue among national government agencies, regional bodies, LGUs, development partners, academics, private sector, and civil society organizations on policy actions to strengthen cities as engines of economic growth and regional development.

MANILA — The Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA) recognized outstanding alumni who have made meaningful contributions to teaching, research, public service and community development across Southeast Asia at the SEARCA Scholars and Alumni Conference on October 20 in Laguna.

The awards were presented during the Outstanding Scholarship Alumni (OSSA) Awards 2026, highlighting SEARCA’s commitment to nurturing leaders who translate knowledge into meaningful action and create lasting impact in their respective fields.

MANILA — Department of Economy, Planning, and Development (DEPDev) Secretary Arsenio M. Balisacan administered the oath of office to Mr. Rory Jay S. Dacumos as Director IV of DEPDev’s Agriculture, Natural Resources, and Environment Staff (ANRES) today, October 22, at the DEPDev Central Office.

Director Dacumos began his career at DEPDev in 2008, holding the position of Economic Development Specialist I, and most recently served as the OIC-Director IV of the ANRES since 2024.
