Consistent with the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage Systemโ€™s (MWSS) Corporate Social Responsibility Statement, โ€œTo build and strengthen relationships of trust, share knowledge, and identify new cooperation opportunitiesโ€, the MWSS officially turned over a service vehicle to the Alpha (Achiever) Company of 70th Infantry Battalion 7th Infantry Division, Philippine Army of the Armed Forces of the Philippines on 26 May 2026.

The initiative originated from the Alpha (Achiever) Companyโ€™s request, through a letter of intent dated 06 March 2026, for a donation of a service vehicle. The requested vehicle intends to enhance the Alpha Companyโ€™s capability of conducting daily operations and security activities in Ipo Dam, Norzagaray, Bulacan, a crucial water source for the people of Metro Manila.

The MWSS will continue this initiative as its way of supporting organizations within its community and reciprocating the services being given for the protection of water and watershed areas within MWSS service areas.

In line with the Integrated Social Development Plan (ISDP) Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) and the Municipality of Tanay, Rizal dated 26 December 2024, the MWSS participated in the turnover ceremony of two waste-collection trucks and two tourism vehicles on 20 May 2026. The MOA recognizes the need for the collaboration of MWSS and the Municipality for the successful implementation of the New Centennial Water Source โ€“ Kaliwa Dam Project (NCWS-KDP) and capacitating local communities through social development projects.

The activity was made possible with the unwavering support and supervision from the Municipality of Tanay under the leadership of Hon. Rex Manuel C. Tanjuatco. Hence, this initiative highlights the commitment of MWSS and Tanay to strengthen support for the host communities and local stakeholders. More than the turnover ceremony, the activity represents an overflowing symbol of partnership, a reflection of a continuous flow of opportunity, progress, and a shared responsibility.

During the 10th Regular Meeting of the Committee On Senior Citizen on 20 May 2026, the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System expressed its full support on the intention of all the proposed bills seeking to promote and protect the rights and welfare of elderly persons.

MWSS recognizes the importance of safeguarding the rights and well-being of our senior citizens. Thus, in compliance with RA No. 9994, otherwise known as the โ€œExpanded Senior Citizens Act of 2010โ€, we would like to inform the public that here in Metro Manila, our Concessionaires, as also approved by the MWSS Board of Trustees, currently grant a five percent (5%) discount on the basic water charge of qualified senior citizens, subject to the following statutory conditions:

1. The account must be registered under the name of the senior citizen residing in the premises;

2. The monthly water consumption must not exceed thirty (30) cubic meters; and

3. Only one discount shall be granted per household, regardless of the number of senior citizens residing therein.

MWSS likewise supports the intention to further expand the coverage of senior citizen privileges and benefits. In this regard, should the proposed bills enacted into law, increasing the consumption threshold coverage for the 5% discount as well as to expand the water discount coverage from thirty (30) cubic meters to fifty (50) cubic meters in order to broaden the number of households with senior citizens that may avail themselves of the said benefit, the MWSS will ensure that our Concessionaires will implement them.

On the other hand, regarding the proposed VAT exemption, we respectfully inform the honorable committee that the proposed VAT exemption for senior citizens would not directly affect the present tax structure applicable to water service charges for both Maynilad and Manila Water. This is pursuant to their legislative franchise under RA 11600 and 11601, whereby the Concessionaires are no longer subject to VAT but instead to a two percent (2%) franchise tax in the form of Other Percentage Tax (OPT).

Nevertheless, MWSS remains committed to supporting legislative measures, policies, and programs that advance the welfare, protection and dignity of older persons while ensuring equitable access to essential water services.

Weโ€™re honored to celebrate a global milestone!๐ŸŽ‰

The Upper Wawa Dam has been recognized as Water Project of the Year at the 2026 Global Water Awards, highlighting projects that are shaping the future of water worldwide.

More than a water supply source, the Upper Wawa Dam plays a critical role in strengthening long-term water security in the East Zone of Metro Manila and Rizal Province by augmenting raw water supply and reducing dependence on a single primary source. It also strengthens climate resilience and serves as a vital flood mitigation measure, helping reduce flooding in Rizal and Marikina City by capturing and storing excess rainfall, protecting communities when it matters most.

This recognition reflects what collaboration, innovation, and purpose-driven infrastructure can achieve. Maraming salamat po to everyone who made this possible!๐Ÿ’™

On 9 January 2026, the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS), under the leadership of the Board of Trustees and Administrator Leonor C. Cleofas, CESO IV, donated various General Administrative Equipment (G*E) to the Norzagaray Water District (NorWD) in Bulacan.

The MWSS Asset Management Department (AMD), together with NorWD General Manager Engr. Aimer B. Cruz, conducted a joint inspection on 5 November 2025 at AMD Warehouse No. 2 to identify items suitable for NorWDโ€™s use. AMD prepared the Inventory and Inspection Report of Unserviceable Property (IIRUP) and endorsed it to the Disposal Committee, which later verified the equipment and, through Resolution No. 2025-016, approved its transfer to NorWD under the mode of disposal โ€œTransfer of Ownership Without Cost.โ€

The donation includes 241 pieces of stainless-steel pipe repair clamps, 2,167 pieces of bolts and nuts in various sizes, 953 pieces of GI Tee, and 135 pieces of GI Straight Elbow. These materials will be repurposed by NorWD to strengthen its operational capacity and ensure the continued delivery of water services to its stakeholders.

Through this donation, MWSS underscores its dedication to empowering local water districts in their mission to deliver reliable and sustainable water services to communities. By extending assistance through the donation of equipment and materials, MWSS demonstrates that its role goes beyond its mandate of operating and maintaining waterworks systems in Metro Manila and parts of Cavite, Rizal and Bulacan, it is also an active partner in strengthening water security outside of MWSSโ€™s service area.

MWSS also highlights the responsible disposal of assets, ensuring that unserviceable or unused items are repurposed to benefit the public. This initiative reflects MWSSโ€™s broader commitment. This initiative highlights efforts of the MWSS in ensuring local water security through resource sharing, technical support and or collaborative programs in order for local water districts to continue meeting the growing needs of the communities they serve.
