Weโre honored to celebrate a global milestone!๐
The Upper Wawa Dam has been recognized as Water Project of the Year at the 2026 Global Water Awards, highlighting projects that are shaping the future of water worldwide.
More than a water supply source, the Upper Wawa Dam plays a critical role in strengthening long-term water security in the East Zone of Metro Manila and Rizal Province by augmenting raw water supply and reducing dependence on a single primary source. It also strengthens climate resilience and serves as a vital flood mitigation measure, helping reduce flooding in Rizal and Marikina City by capturing and storing excess rainfall, protecting communities when it matters most.
This recognition reflects what collaboration, innovation, and purpose-driven infrastructure can achieve. Maraming salamat po to everyone who made this possible!๐

On 9 January 2026, the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS), under the leadership of the Board of Trustees and Administrator Leonor C. Cleofas, CESO IV, donated various General Administrative Equipment (G*E) to the Norzagaray Water District (NorWD) in Bulacan.
The MWSS Asset Management Department (AMD), together with NorWD General Manager Engr. Aimer B. Cruz, conducted a joint inspection on 5 November 2025 at AMD Warehouse No. 2 to identify items suitable for NorWDโs use. AMD prepared the Inventory and Inspection Report of Unserviceable Property (IIRUP) and endorsed it to the Disposal Committee, which later verified the equipment and, through Resolution No. 2025-016, approved its transfer to NorWD under the mode of disposal โTransfer of Ownership Without Cost.โ
The donation includes 241 pieces of stainless-steel pipe repair clamps, 2,167 pieces of bolts and nuts in various sizes, 953 pieces of GI Tee, and 135 pieces of GI Straight Elbow. These materials will be repurposed by NorWD to strengthen its operational capacity and ensure the continued delivery of water services to its stakeholders.
Through this donation, MWSS underscores its dedication to empowering local water districts in their mission to deliver reliable and sustainable water services to communities. By extending assistance through the donation of equipment and materials, MWSS demonstrates that its role goes beyond its mandate of operating and maintaining waterworks systems in Metro Manila and parts of Cavite, Rizal and Bulacan, it is also an active partner in strengthening water security outside of MWSSโs service area.
MWSS also highlights the responsible disposal of assets, ensuring that unserviceable or unused items are repurposed to benefit the public. This initiative reflects MWSSโs broader commitment. This initiative highlights efforts of the MWSS in ensuring local water security through resource sharing, technical support and or collaborative programs in order for local water districts to continue meeting the growing needs of the communities they serve.
