16 March 1966 at the Istana: the Austrian Ambassador presents his credentials to President Yusof Ishak, sealing the start of Singapore–Austria diplomatic relations – making our partnership almost as old as independent Singapore itself.

What started as a young nation reaching out to a European partner has grown into a warm friendship across trade, innovation, culture, shared values and people‑to‑people ties.

From this credentials ceremony in 1966 to today’s resident embassies, cultural festivals and growing economic ties – Singapore and Austria have journeyed 60 years side by side.

Here’s to writing the next chapters together!

Four years since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, we gathered in Singapore to pause, reflect, and honour the resilience, courage, and quiet strength of the Ukrainian people.

Hosts  and the Embassy of Ukraine organised the screening of the award-winning documentary Night Shift by Kyiv-based 🇸🇬 journalist & filmmaker

The film captures the silent tensions and enduring spirit of civilians living through war — a powerful reminder of how storytelling preserves memory and truth.
In solidarity, Ambassadors of EU Member States in Singapore,  🇺🇦 Amb. Kateryna Zelenko, 🇪🇺  & Pulitzer Prize-winning photographer  , the  ,  , the international diplomatic community, leaders of the creative community and youth activists came together to  .

The Austrian Embassy in Singapore was honoured to join not only this reflection, but also an official meeting in the lead-up to the event, when Ambassadors and deputy heads of , Ukraine, and other like-minded countries met with Singapore’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs to express their solidarity with Ukraine on Russia’s war of aggression.

On International Holocaust Remembrance Day, we join , our European friends in Singapore and in honoring the memory of the six million Jewish victims of the Holocaust and all those persecuted by the N**i regime.

As part of the commemoration, our display, “The Art of Survival: Friedl Dicker-Brandeis and the Children of Theresienstadt”, pays tribute to a Viennese artist and teacher who used art to protect children’s souls amid the horrors of the Theresienstadt ghetto.

Born in Vienna, Friedl Dicker-Brandeis held art classes for Jewish children imprisoned in the Theresienstadt ghetto. Between 1942 and 1944, she taught over 600 children to draw their dreams and hopes rather than the horrors surrounding them. Through art, she gave them dignity, identity, and a voice that still speaks to us today.

Dicker-Brandeis was deported to Auschwitz in October 1944, where she was murdered at the age of 46 together with many of her students. Their legacy, however, lives on — a powerful reminder of resilience, humanity, and the enduring strength of the arts even in the darkest times.

May her story inspire us to continue bridging generations, preserving memory, and standing against all forms of hatred and intolerance.

🌍 United Nations Day 2025 | Celebrating unity in diversity 🇺🇳🇦🇹

We were delighted to join the Global Indian International School (GIIS) Smart Campus for their vibrant celebration of , showcasing the spirit of international cooperation and cultural exchange.

Representing the Austrian Embassy, Dr. Andreas Strasser, Head of Consular Affairs and Administration, addressed the students about Austria’s commitment to global peace, sustainability, and education — values shared by the United Nations.

A highlight of the visit was the warm interaction with Grade 4A students, who presented their impressive research and creative projects about Austria’s history, culture, and contributions to the world. Their enthusiasm truly reflected the UN’s call for partnership and learning across borders.

Thank you to the GIIS community for the warm welcome and for inspiring the next generation of global citizens. 🌎
