Dads, there is no playing around with infant safe sleep! Your baby should ALWAYS be sleeping in a separate sleep space, alone, and on their back. Your baby should not be on an adult bed, couch, or chair alone, with you, or with anyone else while they sleep!

Dads, you are not alone. We know you are a super dad, but nobody is superhuman. Did you know that dads can experience postpartum depression too? The rollercoaster of emotions of a baby are real and may feel overwhelming. Talking about how you feel makes, whether it’s overwhelmed, irritable or any other emotion you even more of a super dad! Your mental health matters too, and taking care of yourself is the best way to also take care of your baby.
It takes super strength to reach out for help!

Dads, this football season, make sure to stay out of the danger zone and talk about the "D" of infant safe sleep! It's important to be aware of the DANGERS beyond the crib, like secondhand smoke, knowing the side effects of medications, and making sure that your baby isn't too warm. If you're exhausted or otherwise impaired, asking for help is a strength! Your baby and your family will thank you.

Dads, today we are shining a light on the "C" of Infant Safe Sleep! Your baby should always sleep in a clean, clear, CRIB. There should not be blankets, toys, pillows (including U-shaped pillows), bumpers, or other items that could cover their face. It's important that your baby never sleeps on a couch, swing, adult bed or on an adult's chest while lying down. If your baby falls asleep in their car seat, make sure to move them to their crib, bassinet, or portable Pack 'n Play as soon as you can.
If you are unsure about the safety of your baby's sleep area or an item in their safe sleep area, reach out to your doctor or your local Maine Prevention Council at mainepreventioncouncils.org.

10/09/2026

Dads, make sure you are free to catch the "B" of infant safe sleep! Your baby should always sleep on their BACK, on a firm, flat mattress in a crib or portable crib. Putting your baby on their side or stomach for sleep puts them at a higher risk for sudden infant death. Back sleeping for nights and naps is the safest position for your baby!
