Nothing sweeter than a little hometown Halloween fun!

We had a wonderful afternoon at Burlington’s Trunk or Treat yesterday! Our officers loved handing out candy, visiting with local kiddos, and seeing so many of our Burlington families out enjoying the festivities. From the cutest little ghosts and goblins to superheroes and princesses, there were plenty of smiles to go around!

One of the best things about Burlington is the way our families and neighbors come together. It's those familiar faces, friendly conversations, and little moments that remind us what makes our hometown so special. We’re proud to be part of this community and always enjoy the opportunity to connect with the people who make Burlington such a great place to call home.

Thank you to all the families and neighbors who came out and made the afternoon so much fun! We hope everyone has a safe and happy Halloween!

From our police family to our Burlington family, have a safe, spooktacular Halloween!

131.8 POUNDS OF UNWANTED PRESCRIPTION DRUGS COLLECTED!

The Burlington Police Department is proud to participate in the Kansas Drug Take Back Program, helping keep our community safe by providing a convenient way to dispose of expired and unwanted prescription medications.

On October 28, the Burlington Police Department turned over 131.8 pounds of expired and unwanted prescription drugs to the Drug Enforcement Administration in Topeka. These medications were collected by the Burlington Police Department and the Coffey County Sheriff's Office since April.

A big thank you to everyone who took the time to clean out their medicine cabinets and safely dispose of unwanted medications! Your participation helps prevent prescription drug misuse and keeps these medications out of the wrong hands and out of our water supply.

Have expired or unwanted prescription medications at home? We encourage you to drop them off at the Burlington Police Department between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Don't let unused medications sit around your home where they could pose a risk to others. Help us keep our community safe by disposing of them responsibly. Together, we can make a difference!

FOUND: One bicycle seeking its human

A green and black Surge bicycle was found abandoned in the 300 block of Neosho Street after sitting around two weeks waiting for its owner to come back.

The bicycle has now been safely recovered and is enjoying protective custody at the Burlington Police Department. It has declined to explain how it ended up on Neosho Street, where its owner went, or why it stayed there for two whole weeks. We’re getting nothing but silence.

If this bicycle belongs to you—or you know someone who has recently thought, “You know, I feel like I used to own a bike…”—please contact the Burlington Police Department at (620) 364-8757.

There is a catch: To claim it, the owner will need to tell us what is missing from the bicycle. We know what it is, so no guessing games! This will help us make sure our two-wheeled guest goes home with its rightful owner and not someone who simply thinks a free green-and-black bicycle sounds like a pretty good deal.

Please share and help us solve the mystery of the wandering Surge!

WHAT’S ON YOUR FRIDGE?
Family photos? ✔️
Kids’ artwork? ✔️
Takeout menus you haven’t used since 2019? Probably.
Important medical information that could help first responders during an emergency? Let’s add that one!

The Burlington Police Department has FREE Operation Red File folders available for our community!

Operation Red File, developed through the Kansas Department for Aging and Disability Services (KDADS) in partnership with the Kansas Senior Medicare Patrol, gives first responders a quick and easy way to find important information if they’re called to your home for a medical emergency.

It’s simple:
🔴 Fill out your medical and emergency information.
🔴 Put the red folder on your refrigerator.
🔴 That’s it! No batteries, passwords, Wi-Fi, or instruction manual required.

If police, fire, or EMS respond to your home, they’ll know where to look for information that could be important to your care.

And these aren’t just for you! Pick one up for Mom, Dad, Grandma, Grandpa, a neighbor, a friend—or that person who has absolutely EVERYTHING stuck to their refrigerator except their emergency information.

Stop by the Burlington Police Department at 616 S. Third Street and grab FREE Operation Red Files.

Your refrigerator already works hard holding grocery lists, magnets, and leftovers. Give it one more important job.

Please SHARE and help us put a little more RED on refrigerators around Burlington!

⚠️ Individual offenders may still have restrictions through court orders, probation, or parole.

🎃 Help protect your children!
✅ Check the Kansas offender registry: https://www.kbi.ks.gov/registeredoffender/
✅ Teach body safety and boundaries.
✅ Know your children's trick-or-treating plans.

Burlington, it’s time to get those limbs in line!

Before your yard waste turns into a forest of its own, it’s time to brush up on the rules! We’re talking BRUSH, not your old couch, broken lawn mower, or that mystery item you’ve been meaning to haul off since 2019.

Check out the flyer below for all the details on Burlington’s Brush Removal Program. Let’s keep our curbs tidy, our streets clear, and our brush piles looking less like a lumberjack convention!
