Helping older adults in Mecklenburg County live their best lives through programs and support.

Adventures in Learning- provides extended learning for older adults. Each quarter a new series of elective classes in history, art, religion, writing and recreational subjects are offered. Travel - trips are designed by senior volunteers with seniors in mind. Income Tax Assistance - In cooperation with AARP, trained volunteers help tax payers complete and file Federal and State income tax returns. SHIIP (Senior Health Insurance Information Program) Health Insurance Assistance
- Trained volunteers help senior adults find the right Medicare supplemental coverage, explore long-term care insurance options and assist in filing benefits. Transportation - volunteers provide rides to medical services, dental and physical therapy appointments as well as grocery store, bank and other necessary errands. Handyman Services - volunteers perform small repairs to help keep older adults' homes safe and viable.

🌟 Celebrating an extraordinary volunteer! 🌟

Last week, we had the privilege of celebrating Leslie Aronovitz, a 2026 National Volunteer of Excellence Honoree, at Aging Forward 's National Gallery of Volunteer Excellence Awards!

Since 2013, Leslie has been a trusted guide and advocate for Medicare beneficiaries through our SHIIP program. Her impact is nothing short of incredible. In 2025 alone, she helped 325 individuals navigate their Medicare options with confidence. During the most recent Open Enrollment period, her guidance helped 55 beneficiaries switch prescription drug plans, saving them a combined $106,834! 🤯

But behind every number is a person, a family, and a little more peace of mind.

That is what our mission is all about: connecting older adults with the resources, support, and guidance they need to live their best lives. Leslie brings that mission to life with every appointment, every conversation, and every person she serves.

Leslie, we are SO grateful for your dedication, compassion, and commitment to our community. Your impact reaches far beyond the numbers, and this recognition is so incredibly well deserved. We are lucky to have you on our team! 💚

🚂 All aboard for a day full of history, laughter, and connection! 💙

Yesterday’s adventure to the N.C. Transportation Museum came with PERFECT Carolina blue skies, a train ride, and so many fascinating stories along the way! ☀️🚂 A huge thank you to Dave and his trainees for being wonderful tour guides and bringing history to life!

We enjoyed boxed lunches from , because supporting another nonprofit is a win-win! 💚

And of course, Liza made train-themed name tags for everyone because it’s the little details in life! 🚂😉

But the best part? The conversations, the connections, the stories shared, and the laughter along the way.

Now THAT’S what we call a first-class adventure! 🎟️🚂

🎉🎂 What better way to introduce our new Office Manager than on her birthday?! Help us wish Jeralynn a very happy birthday! 🥳💚

We’re so excited to welcome Jeralynn to the Shepherd’s Center of Charlotte team! She holds a bachelor’s degree in Psychology with a minor in Sociology and a Graduate Certificate in Gerontology from UNC Charlotte (Go Niners! 💚🤙).

A few fun facts about Jeralynn:
🎶 She loves early 2000s music!
🐾 She enjoys spending time at animal shelters and volunteering.
🇬🇧 She studied abroad in the UK!
📚 Her go-to book genres are psychology and romance.
