💙 Honoring Our History. Investing in Our Future.

A historic gathering place in Charlotte's Washington Heights neighborhood has a new chapter!

Following a $2.9 million renovation, L.C. Coleman Park has reopened, bringing renewed recreational spaces and opportunities for families and neighbors to come together.

But this park represents so much more than playgrounds, basketball courts, and walking trails.
It is part of the history of Charlotte's Black community and a reminder of the importance of preserving the places that connect generations.

👏🏾 We're proud to recognize Charlotte Area Fund Board Member Mattie Marshall, a longtime advocate for the historic Washington Heights neighborhood and its preservation.

Mattie's dedication to neighborhood history and community advocacy reflects a belief we share at CAF: Stronger communities are built when residents have a voice in shaping their future.

📌 Community investment is about more than buildings and parks. It's about people, belonging, and opportunity.

Congratulations to the Washington Heights community on this meaningful milestone!

Mecklenburg County’s Crisis Intervention Program (CIP) will be at Charlotte Area Fund to help eligible households experiencing a cooling-related crisis.

A Mecklenburg County representative will be on site accepting applications.

You may be eligible if:

✓ At least one eligible U.S. citizen or legal resident lives in the household
✓ Your household income is at or below 150% of the Federal Poverty Limit
✓ You are responsible for your household’s energy bills
✓ Your household is experiencing a heating or cooling-related emergency

This morning, Charlotte Area Fund proudly welcomed 20 Charlotte residents as we kicked off our first Highway Construction & Building Trades Bootcamp!

Through the City of Charlotte's Skilled to Build initiative, participants will spend the next four weeks gaining hands-on experience, industry-recognized credentials, and the support needed to pursue careers in construction and infrastructure.

📌 Five credentials. Four weeks. New career opportunities.

Beyond technical training, participants will receive employability training, financial empowerment coaching through our Financial Opportunity Center® program, and personalized Success Coach support.

We were honored to welcome Danielle Frazier, Special Assistant to the City Manager for Workforce Development, , to help celebrate this exciting milestone.

🗳️ VOTING BY MAIL IN NORTH CAROLINA? IMPORTANT INFORMATION!

❗ New absentee voting requirements are affecting how mail-in ballots are processed in North Carolina, including Mecklenburg County.

If you're voting by mail, make sure you SEAL BOTH ENVELOPES!

📌 Here's what you need to know:

➣ Seal both envelopes. Make sure the inner envelope containing your ballot AND the outer return envelope are properly sealed.

➣ Know the deadline. Your completed absentee ballot must be received by your county board of elections by 7:30 PM on Tuesday, November 3.

➣ Consider voting in person. Early voting and Election Day voting are also available options.

➣ Check your ballot status. If you've already submitted your absentee ballot, verify its status and contact your county board of elections if there's an issue.
