Statement on String of Burglaries in 26th Ward

CHICAGO, IL – October 30, 2026 – Between 4:30 - 5:30 AM, at least three businesses were the victims of criminal damage to property and burglary attempts.

My office is in communication with the owners of Digos Tacos, Jet’s Pizza, and Nick’s On North – they have reported broken windows and stolen cash registers. While most businesses do not keep cash on site, the break-ins leave small business owners with costly repairs and timely clean up.

My office is in contact with the 14th Police District, who will add extra monitoring to the area. If you have any information, video footage, or security camera recordings that may assist investigators, please contact the 14th Police District at 312-744-8290 or [email protected]. Our small businesses are vital to vibrant communities, contributing employment options, healthy economic development, and spaces for friends and families to gather. Why did the block over get repaved, and yours didn’t?

Every ward gets 1.5 million a year in menu money for streets, sidewalks, alleys, and lighting. That sounds like a lot until you see the cost per fix.

Of that 1.5 million, we set aside 500k for YOU to prioritize what gets done through our participatory budgeting process.

This Monday at our Humboldt Park Town Hall, we’re going to go deeper into the menu: what’s planned, what it costs, and what's been done throughout the ward. Join us:
