look, you have a lot on your mind as we approach this very important runoff election period.
But more and more, especially as local races in Chicago heat up, I am thinking about a lot of the things that I learned when I was an extraordinarily mid media spokesperson, and even more middling PR strategist.
There a lot of information we don’t use on the left when it comes to media, not because it is some secret special skill that only a few elite people can do, but because in the year of our Lord 2026, when everyone has a camera, everybody really is a media expert, and anybody can make content, EVEN FEWER people have any time or capacity.
The left is already stretched thin, working extremely hard, and it’s hard to make the space to actually practice these skills.
AND — we are long past the days of old weird men in back room alleys making deals and bribing journalists, and also they have ci**rs or something. To be clear I’m not totally convinced that that period ever really existed, even in Chicago!!
But I do think there are a lot of very basic media strategies in the world that are not public knowledge because of lack of capacity on the left and also the ease of access, and I am going to dive into some of them.
This first video is about the most important rule of all: not losing your mind.
This sounds extremely simple, but it is almost impossible for even the most sane and virtuous people, to do when it comes to public attention, imo.
I actually think the ways that I’ve tied up these little tips in a bow make them sound incredibly easy — that is by design because I want the algorithm to show as many people as possible this video, beyond even the reach of those goofy dancing Amy Goodman videos! Fingers crossed for me.
Next time you go on TV, talk to anybody about the work that you do, or make another vertical video because I’m still texting you bc you told me you would, I hope you think of these three simple rules!!!
Which one actually helped you??
