There’s something powerful about standing in front of young people before life tries to define them.

I had the honor of participating in Darlington Middle School's 2026 Black History Career Expo in Darlington, SC. Moments like this matter. Conversations like this matter. Exposure like this matters.

The work doesn’t start in detention facilities. It starts in classrooms.
It starts in hallways.
It starts with someone asking a young person, “What do you see for yourself?”

When we invest in young people early, we are investing in prevention, possibility, and power. We are planting seeds before systems ever get a chance to intervene.

While Black History Month may have concluded, the commitment to building forward continues. Showing our youth the careers, the leadership, the entrepreneurship , and the impact they can step into right now is how we carry the legacy every day.

Every young person deserves to see what’s possible, and to believe it includes them.

Grateful to have co-facilitated a retreat for GOSO with Melissa, an organization that took a purpose to create intentional space for connection, reflection, and growth.

During our time together we held space for one another embrace, vulnerability, and strengthen the bonds that make their community, so resilient and powerful moments like these remind me of the incredible work organizations can do when they slow down, show up fully and invest in the people who make their mission possible.

Here’s two more intentional, pauses deeper connections, and the brave work of holding space for ourselves and each other.

Every day, people around us may be fighting battles we cannot see. Sometimes it shows up in subtle ways through a post online, words spoken in frustration, or quiet withdrawal. Other times, it’s a direct cry for help.

What can we do?
✨Listen without judgment
✨Check in on your loved ones—a simple “I’m here for you” can mean the world.
✨Take every post or comment seriously, never assume it’s “just talk or they are posting for likes."
✨Offer resources such as a support group, prayer, crisis hotline etc.

💚 You never know how powerful your presence, your kindness, and your words can be in someone’s darkest moment. Let’s stand together to break the silence, uplift each other, and remind our communities that hope and healing are always possible.

I recently had the privilege of facilitating a Restorative Practices workshop at Butler Academy, where educators and staff engaged in powerful conversations about fostering a restorative school community. The opening circle was particularly impactful—staff showed vulnerability, trust, and a deep commitment to growth, creating a strong foundation for connection and collaboration.

Butler Academy's mission, Positioning Scholars to Succeed, aligns seamlessly with restorative practices. Their dedication to the social-emotional well-being of students, families, and staff reflects the core values of restorative work: building relationships, fostering accountability, and creating a supportive learning environment.

Butler Academy’s dedication to this work is inspiring. How is your school fostering a restorative culture? Let’s connect!
