⚠️Trail to Close for Dye Branch Stream Project⚠️

Beginning Nov. 2, the walking trail that connects Walter Y. Elisha Park and Harris Street Park will be closed as the Town of Fort Mill begins the Dye Branch Stream Restoration project. The trail will be closed for three months during this project and closure signs will be placed at each end, both in Walter Y. Elisha Park and on the Jackson Street side of Harris Street.

During this project, crews will reduce erosion risk to sewer infrastructure along the stream, improve stream function, preserve the aquatic habitat in the area, and remove invasive and non-native plants.

Thank you for your patience as we complete this much-needed restoration project!

🚶Tips for Pedestrians During Pedestrian Safety Month⚠️

Ever wonder why pedestrians get a head start before traffic gets a green light?

When crossing the street, you've probably pushed the pedestrian button and waited for the walk signal to appear or for the audible crossing message to begin. Once that "Walk" signal turns on, have you noticed that all vehicle traffic remains stopped for a few extra seconds while you're already in the crosswalk?

This brief head start gives pedestrians the opportunity to enter the crosswalk and become more visible to drivers before vehicles begin moving. By allowing pedestrians to establish their presence in the crosswalk first, drivers are better able to see them, especially when making turns.

While those extra seconds are designed to help make crossing safer for everyone, here are some friendly reminders for pedestrians when crossing in a crosswalk:

• Start crossing when the walk signal appears.
• Stay alert and make eye contact with drivers when possible.
• Keep your phone down and focus on your surroundings.

Let's work together to keep Fort Mill's streets safe for everyone!

🎥Day in the Life-Stormwater Community Liaison💧

Have you ever wondered what a typical day looks like for our many Town of Fort Mill employees? Our Day in the Life video series takes you behind the scenes to meet the people who serve our community and get a closer look at what they do during a normal workday.

For today’s video, we’re spending the day with Stormwater Community Liaison Mina McLean MacDonald!

Follow along as we get an inside look at her role with the Town’s Stormwater Department- from river clean-ups to educational initiatives focused on the importance of keeping local waterways clean!

“How can I make you fall in love with something you’ve never met? And that’s the thing- I want people to meet their waterway. I want them to care about the creek that runs through their backyard or in their neighborhood,” MacDonald said. “When they care about something, they’re going to take care of it.”

And stay tuned as we regularly highlight more of the people and jobs that help make Fort Mill a great place to live, work and play!

Please see this important traffic alert for Thursday, Oct. 29, from Fort Mill Police Department.

TRAFFIC ADVISORY — THURSDAY, OCTOBER 29, 2026

Motorists should prepare for significant traffic impacts lasting several hours during the President’s visit to the Rock Hill area tomorrow, October 29, 2026.

All bridges over I-77 in the Fort Mill area will close temporarily at varied times around midday. Temporary closures will also affect interstate entrance ramps at SC Highway 160 and Sutton Road, along with the Harris Street underpass and Coltharp Road overpass. Congestion and delays are expected to extend beyond the closure periods.

Please plan ahead, allow substantial extra travel time, and consider alternate routes. Follow directions from officers and posted traffic-control signs and keep intersections clear.

The Fort Mill Police Department is coordinating with the South Carolina Highway Patrol to manage traffic and reopen affected roads as soon as safely possible.

The White House Press Office can be contacted at [email protected] if additional information is needed.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation.

⚠️It’s Pedestrian Safety Month, Town of Fort Mill!🚶

In recognition of Pedestrian Safety Month, which was designated in 2020 by the U.S. Department of Transportation's National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the Town of Fort Mill would like to highlight the importance of keeping pedestrians safe on our local roads.

Keeping our roads safe is a shared responsibility. As drivers, staying alert and looking out for pedestrians can help in keeping everyone safe.

Here are a few important reminders:

• Always stay alert for pedestrians, especially near intersections, parking lots, schools, parks and residential neighborhoods.

• Slow down and be prepared to stop when approaching crosswalks or making turns. A few extra seconds of caution can make a big difference.

• Always yield to pedestrians in crosswalks. When stopping, leave enough space before the crosswalk so other drivers can clearly see pedestrians and stop safely as well.

• Eliminate distractions. Keep your focus on the road and continuously scan for people walking, biking or crossing nearby.

Every trip is an opportunity to make our community safer. By remaining attentive and courteous behind the wheel, we can help ensure everyone gets to their destination safely.

Safe drivers. Safe pedestrians. Safe Fort Mill.
