Young Men's Leadership Academy The Paul Laurence Dunbar Young Men’s Leadership Academy (YMLA) is Fort Worth ISD's first single-gender school. (1) No profanity. (2) No vulgarities.

Congratulations to our newest Renae L. Ruffin scholarship recipient, Eduardo Retes! Since its inception (2012), in a campus-wide program, the Renea L. Ruffin Breast Cancer Awareness Ceremony, the Young Men's Leadership Academy has honored and paid reverence to families and friends who have faced breast cancer. This year, we honored the continued journey for our very own Mrs. Chopp! The Ruffin family has awarded thousands of dollars in scholarships to seniors whose essays respond to the late Nelson Mandela's claim that “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.”

Save the flyer below for information on how to participate! $2 per day and join us as we honor the cause and message of this year’s Red Ribbon Week® theme, “Make a Difference. Be a Hero. Stay Drug Free.™,” EVERY SCHOLAR at YMLA will receive their own red ribbon!

Grassroot Beginnings
Enrique "Kiki" Camarena was a Drug Enforcement Administration Agent who was tortured and killed in Mexico in 1985. In honor of Kiki's memory and his battle against illegal drugs, friends and neighbors began to wear red badges of satin. Parents then began to form coalitions using Camarena as their model while embracing his belief that one person can make a difference. These coalitions adopted the symbol of Camarena's memory, the Red Ribbon. Today, the Red Ribbon serves as a catalyst to mobilize communities to educate youth and encourage participation in drug prevention activities.
