Last week, our department had the honor of attending the first annual Touch‑a‑Truck Career Fair at the Montessori at LeMoyne Elementary School.

The SHERP was on display for students to explore, giving them a chance to learn how this unique vehicle supports rescue and recovery operations in challenging environments during emergencies.

Class frisbees, citizen‑preparedness brochures, and materials about our department were handed out to help students better understand our role throughout the county.

Events like this are always a great opportunity to connect with the community and share what our team does each day to support public safety.

The Syracuse Police Department is seeking the public's assistance in locating Troy Boatwright, who is wanted in connection with a homicide investigation in the City of Syracuse.

Anyone with information regarding Boatwright's whereabouts is asked to contact the Syracuse Police Department Warrant Squad at 315-442-5230.

Members of the public are reminded not to approach or attempt to apprehend Boatwright. Anyone who sees him should contact the Warrant Squad immediately.

The final piece of infrastructure in Syracuse's southern interchange is open in time for the evening commute. 🎉

Drivers can now use the ramp from I-81 southbound to I-481 northbound, providing a direct connection from University Hill, downtown Syracuse and the Southside to the eastern and northern suburbs.

Following today's event, New York State Department of Transportation Commissioner Marie Therese Dominguez hopped in a NYSDOT dump truck and was the first to traverse the new ramp.

If you need to evacuate, plan ahead for pet‑friendly options, since many shelters and hotels cannot accept animals. Identify a safe place you can go, and talk with friends or family who may be able to help.

When severe weather is expected, bring pets indoors early and keep them close. Staying informed through local alerts ensures you can act quickly when conditions change.

Our team had an amazing time connecting with community members, answering questions, and showing everyone a closer look at some of the tools we use to keep Onondaga County safe. From the Mobile Operations Center (EM‑50) to the SHERP, it was great watching people explore the equipment, learn how it supports emergency response, and see firsthand the capabilities we bring to major incidents.
